Good morning Class 4!

We are so sorry that you are all having to stay at home again but hope that everyone is safe and well. Mrs Nunez will be in contact with parents about when you can collect work packs and they should keep you busy!

Did you watch the football? Goodness it was nail biting! We are sure, like us you are all very proud of all that team have achieved.

As well your work packs remember to go on TT Rockstars and Ed Shed to practise your tables and spellings. We hope that you get time to do lots of reading. Remember, if you don't have books at home there is the E-Library (see link at the top of the page) where you can access lots and lots of books.

As well as doing your schoolwork, it's important to try and do some exercise - follow the links above where you can dance, exercise or even do some yoga!

Lastly, remember that Miss Irwin and I are just an email away so if you want to get on touch with us please do.

We had a great afternoon at our first YRP Event. We were able to browse in our very own mini book shop, choose a new book to keep (for free), spend time reading and talking about our new books. We made book marks and even had a sweet treat whilst we read!

We can't wait for our next event when the whole school will be getting together to read their new books in the sunshine!

E-Library

At the event everyone also received a login for the E-Library. Follow the link above and use your login details to access lots and lots of great books to read online.

Monday 1st March 2021

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe and well. Today is March 1st - the first day of spring! It certainly felt like spring this weekend with all the lovely sunshine. I hope you enjoyed it.

This week is our last week of online learning. From next Monday we will be back in class together - Miss Irwin and I can't wait to see you all and we have lots of fun activities planned to enjoy during our first week back together. Remember to come and collect your final packs this morning and bring in last week's work. I am so pleased with how hard so many of you have been working - you should be very proud.

This week is World Book Day (Thursday 4th March) and you'll find fun activities in your pack to do on the day, as well as a book token with details of where you can spend it. Check out lots of fun activities by clicking on the World Book Day link on this page. David Walliams will be doing an assembly on Thursday at 10.30am which should be great fun! We will be dressing up at school as our favourite book characters so if you can, why don't you dress up and send in photos to me so we can put them on the school website.

For English this week Groups 1 & 2 will be continuing with their poetry and learning to use expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases to write poetic descriptions. Group 3 will be reading a book all about what pets get up to at night, as well as one about monsters. You will be practising using expanded noun phrases, using apostrophes for possession and writing your own pet story. Group 4 will be continuing with their wonderful word and sentence work. Remember it's really important to have a good go at each of your lessons over the week.

As well as your English lessons, make sure you go on Ed Shed and practise your spellings and complete the handwriting in your packs. Remember to keep reading too.

This week’s maths lessons focus on different areas of maths depending on the group you are in. Remember to look at the cover sheet of your maths pack that you collect from school, so you know which group you are in.

Group 1 will be subtracting numbers within 20, group 2 will be working on division by making equal groups by sharing and grouping. Group 3 and 4 will continue with their work on multiplication and division which will involve multiplying and dividing 2 and 3 digit numbers. The questions on page 1 of your sheet are the easier questions, so try to complete all of the first page. The second side of the sheet will cover more difficult questions, with the most challenging questions at the end of the sheet. Remember to read each question carefully. If you can’t do one of the questions you can watch the video again or see if an adult can help you. You can always leave a question and go onto the next one. Just try your best and do what you can. If you have any questions about maths, please email Miss Irwin.

Keep practising your mental maths skills on Numbots and times tables on TT Rockstars. Have a go at the Rockslam challenge Miss Irwin has set as well as practising in Soundcheck. To practise a specific times table go into the Arena or Garage. You can also use your Times Tables Race Mat or ladder to practise your times tables. Miss Irwin will award house points for using TT Rockstars and Numbots.

This week’s science lesson continues with our states of matter topic. You will learn about how scientists measure temperature and the two major ‘fixed points’ of a substance (melting and boiling point). Open the weekly timetable and click on the link to watch the science lesson video. You just need a piece of paper and a pencil to do your work. You could email a photo of your work to Miss Irwin or return it in your pack.

This week’s PSHE activity focuses on your time away from school during the current lockdown. You will need to think about what you have been doing and how you have been feeling during your time away from school. You will share thoughts and ideas from your completed activity sheet with a partner, during our PSHE lesson in the first week back at school.

Have a great last week of home learning Class 4. Enjoy World Book Day and pleased send in any photos so we can share them on the school website.

Remember if you have any difficulties with any of your English, please email me and for any problems with maths, email Miss Irwin.

I can't wait to see you all next week.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

WELL DONE TO KING!!!

Children's Mental Health Week

It's really important that we take care of our mental health and how we're feeling during lockdown. It's difficult not having our normal routine or seeing our friends but remember we will get through this.

There is a new star on our page for our Magical Minds. You'll find activities in there to help your mental wellbeing. I love doing Yoga and meditation to help me so I have put some simple Yoga cards in there as well as some mindfulness colouring sheets and activities.

Remember to take care and look after your mind as well as your body. You can email me or Miss Irwin to share pictures of how you're looking after your mind or if you just want to 'chat' and catch up.

Take care, stay safe and keep smiling,

Monday 1st February 2021

Good morning Class 4 and welcome to February!

Can you believe it? It's February already. I hope you and all your families are safe, well and continuing to manage during this lockdown.

This week is a bit different, after we were unable to open last week because of the snow. The pack you will get today is last week's pack (all the information about the learning is below) and most of you will work through it as you usually do. Remember to try and do the maths and English lessons each day. The virtual timetable will help you to plan your week if you find it difficult. There are links to help you at the top of the page, just click the appropriate stars and go to Week 3.

Well done to Agape and Shams who sent Miss Irwin and I wonderful work from last week and earned lots of dots and House points. For those children who were able to download and print the online worksheets and complete last week’s work, you need to check your class pack for other paper activities (PSHE, spellings, handwriting and topic work) and complete these. You then need to access last week’s weekly timetable (Week 3) on this page and check you have completed all the online activities for science, geography and music. If you have completed every activity for last week in your pack and online then please go the additional learning activities star above where you will find a range of other activities for you to complete. You do not need to print any of these activities.

For English this week Group 1 (there is no group number at the top of your work) and Group 2 we are continuing with our rainforest theme but this week we will be reading a new book - The Shaman's Apprentice and learning more about the people who live in the rainforest. There are videos to help you, just follow the links at the top of the page. Group 3 will have English work all about animals and dream jobs and Group 4 will continue practising spellings and simple sentence work. Please email me if you have any difficulties or want to share your wonderful work.

As well as doing an English lesson each day it's really important to do some reading and practise your spellings on Ed Shed. You will find PowerPoints or videos to help on the link above.

For your Geography lesson this week you'll be learning all about the animals that live in the different layers of the rainforest. Follow the link on this week's timetable and then in your pack label and colour the picture.

This week’s maths lessons focus on different areas of maths depending on the group you are in. Remember to look at the cover sheet of your maths pack that you collect from school, so you know which group you are in.

Group 1 will continue learning about numbers 11 to 20, Group 2 will learn about multiplication and division with a focus on equal groups and arrays. Group 3 will move on to learning the 3 and 4 times tables as well as learning how to divide. Group 4 will be learning how to multiply and divide by 0, 1, 10 and 100.The questions on page 1 of your sheet are the easier questions, so try to complete all of the first page.

Miss Irwin will award house points for using TT Rockstars and Numbots.

This week’s science lesson continues with our states of matter topic. You will learn all about particles, what they are, how they behave in a solid, liquid and a gas and how scientists use diagrams to represent them. Open the weekly timetable and click on the link to watch the science lesson video. You just need a piece of paper and a pencil to do your work. See if you can draw the diagrams of particles in solids, liquids and gases. You could email a photo of your work to Miss Irwin or return it in your pack.  There is also a PSHE activity in your pack. Miss Irwin would love to see your drawing of someone who is special to you.

Finally, just another huge thank you and well done to everyone for working so hard - home schooling is not easy and Miss Irwin and I are so pleased with how hard everyone is working and we also want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all your parents and carers who are also having to work really hard to support you during this time.

I hope everyone has a great Monday and week.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

WELL DONE TO KING!!

Friday 29th January 2021

Hello Class 4 and Happy Friday!!

I hope you are all well and keeping safe. I know this week has been a little different as you didn’t have your paper packs to work from – you will get these on Monday.

A huge thank you to the children who managed to complete some of their online lessons without their packs and a big thank you to your parents for helping you with this. Miss Chambers and I miss teaching all the children in Class 4 and seeing our Bentinck families.

A very special mention and thank you to Agape and Shams. Miss Chambers and I were so impressed that you managed to access your English and Maths online this week and email us too. It was lovely to hear from you both. You have earned House points for Greta and King. Well done – you should feel very proud. Thank you for working hard at home – keep up the good work.

WELL DONE to those children who have been going on Ed Shed – Awais A, Ese, Izaak, Mharan and Shams have all earned House points. Remember to play the games for your assignment before going on Buzz Words or Bee Keeper. Start with Easy and move on when you are ready (getting full marks).

Shams, Izaak, Ocean, Nathan, Awais S and Ese have all been busy using Numbots to practise their maths skills and the following children have been practising their times tables on TT Rockstars; Shams, Maliha, Adchayan, Ocean, Oscar, Mharan, Ese and Cameron. Well done you have all earned a House point each. A big shout out to Mharan and Ese who spent a lot of time on TT Rockstars and have earned an extra two House points as well. Well done – keep practising.  Remember to have a go at the Rockslam challenge that I set each week too. You can earn two House points if you complete it.

I have added all the House points together for January for the children working at home and the children in our bubble at school. Take a look at the House points table at the top of the page. WELL DONE to all the children in KING who are way ahead with 45 points!!

Please keep up the hard work and remember it’s really important to have a go at each of your English and Maths lessons. Remember you can email Miss Chambers for help with your English or to send photos of work you’re really proud of. If you have any questions on how to complete your maths work or want to share something you are proud of then email me, Miss Irwin. We would love to see your Science, Geography and PSHE work too.

Please return last week’s completed work and your pupil feedback form on Monday morning between 10:00am and 10:20am on the school playground please. Miss Chambers will update our class page on Monday with information about next week’s remote learning.

Finally, here is a brilliant and fun activity.  Today or this weekend you could take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch – this is a national bird survey happening this weekend. The RSPB (Royal Society for Protection of Birds) is asking participants to spend one hour, between 29th January - 31st January, watching the birds that land in their garden or outdoor space. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the world’s largest wildlife project, aimed at better protecting the future of our beautiful British birds. The pdf below explains how to get involved. Follow the RSPB link for more information and lots of great bird related activities, such as how to make a simple bird feeder, how to take great wildlife photos and you can even take a quiz to find out which garden bird you are most like!

I hope you all have a good weekend.  Take care, stay safe and keep smiling.

UPDATE

Wednesday 27th January 2021

Hello Class 4!

I hope you all enjoyed the snow over the last few days and you and your families are safe and well. Olivia and Isaac had lots of fun, I have posted a photo of the snow frog that Olivia made.

A decision has been made to keep this week’s work packs for next week. They will need to be collected on Monday 1st February at the usual time between 10:00am and 10:20am.

Thank you to the children who were able to access the digital version of the worksheets and complete these at home this week for Maths and English. If you could not access the digital sheets and are unable to print the worksheets, please do not worry. You will receive the paper sheets in your pack next Monday and this will be your work to complete for the week. We will not be putting together another set of Maths and English activities next week.

For home learning for the rest of this week; please ensure you have completed every activity to the best of your ability in last week’s work pack. Remember to do the activities for science, music and geography which can be accessed through the links on the week 3 class timetable – this is in the weekly remote leaning timetable star at the top of this page. You also have PSHE activities to complete as well as spellings and handwriting.

Please remember to use TT Rockstars, Numbots and EdShed every day to practise your spellings and number fluency. Thank you to those children who are doing this. However, there are many of you who are not using these. They can be accessed through a smart phone, tablet, games console, laptop or PC. If you have lost or forgotten you login then please email me or Miss Chambers and we will send it to you. We will award house points for using TT Rockstars, Numbots and Edshed.

It is really important that you read every day too. If you need a new reading book, please email me or Miss Chambers and we will have a new reading book ready for Monday. You must return the book you have at home though.

For other learning activities, please click on the additional learning activities star at the top of the class page. You will find links to websites, ideas for learning and activities that do not require you to print anything. There are lots of great learning videos and games on BBC Bitesize and there are lessons for primary age children being broadcast every day during school time on CBBC.

Please email me or Miss Chambers if you have any questions or are unsure what to do. Remember we will give house points to children who email and share what they have been doing.

Take care and stay safe and well.

UPDATE – MONDAY 25th January 2021

School is CLOSED today due to the snowy weather and dangerous conditions on the roads.

School will re-open (for those that are attending) and you will be able to collect your child’s work pack, once the school site is safe for our families to come on to. We will keep you informed.

Please check the website and your phone for updates.

Please read the message below from Miss Chambers regarding today’s learning.

If you are unable to access or print the online activities, you can always try a snow activity indoors or outdoors.

Why not build a snowman, snow dog or snow cat?

You could see how many snowballs you can make.

You can draw or paint a picture of a snowy landscape.

You can write a winter poem.

Miss Chambers and I would love to see photos of your snowy activities and we will award house points for completing a snow activity.

Take a look at the snowman Olivia and Isaac made yesterday, he is called Spencer and is enormous!

Enjoy the snow, wrap up warm, be careful and stay safe.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe and well. I can't believe how much it snowed yesterday! Did you manage to get out in it? It has certainly made everything where I live look rather magical. However, due to all the snow, school will be closed today and so unfortunately parents and carers will not be able to collect your pack. Miss Irwin and I will put pdfs of today's work on the links above. Don't worry if you can't print work off just do the lessons you have time to when you do receive your pack.

Miss Irwin and I really miss you all very much but are very proud of the work you are doing and very grateful to all of your parents and carers for continuing to help you with your home schooling.

Some of you will get dots with today's pack so keep filling in your dot cards and remember to let us know when you complete a colour so we can send out your treat!

For this week's English groups 1 and 2 are continuing with The Great Kapok Tree book. We will be looking at different word types, how to write descriptively, looking at coordination & subordination and then using all the skills we have learned to write a formal letter as if we are the logger.

Group 3 your English is all about Robins. You will have some reading and a comprehension; a lesson on statements and questions; work on the lifecycle of the robin and at the end of the week you will produce a fact file using all the information you have learned.

Group 4 you have lots of word and sentence work to help you with your English. Remember also to log onto Flash Academy to help you to keep practising your language.

Please click onto the assignments link as I set these each week for you to be able to practise and learn that week's spellings for your group. Please try and read every day too.

This week you will see that there is a timetable link at the top of the page. There are instructions for the timetable in your pack and it gives you an idea of how you might structure each day's learning. Monday 11th January

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe, well and getting used to being back in lockdown. Today your parents should have collected your new work pack from school and handed in your one from last week. All the instructions you need are at the front of your English and maths packs. You will find the links at the top of this page, just click on the appropriate star.

English

For English, in groups 1 and 2 we are starting a new unit all about the Amazon rainforest. Each day follow the instructions in the pack for that day's lesson and click on the links and videos to help you. On Wednesday you'll be able to go on a virtual fieldtrip to the rainforest! Please make sure you have a really good go at each lesson but only do one lesson each day! If you find something difficult ask someone at home if they can help you. Don't worry if no one can, you can email me or leave anything that is too tricky.

If you are in group 3, you will be looking at poetry by Michael Rosen and you will find all your links and video by following the instructions in your pack and clicking on the stars.

For group 4 (KS2 Language group) you will be following lessons on Flash Academy. You will find your group page on the Classes' page - click on KS2 Language Group. There is also a link to Flash Academy at the top of this page. You will just need to log in and follow each day's lessons. Please contact Miss Chambers if you have any logging in issues.

Also if you would like to send some work, I would love to see that as well. Remember to keep all your work safe so that it can be returned to school next Monday.

Maths

This week’s maths lessons focus on different areas of maths depending on the group you are in. Look at the cover sheet of your maths pack that you collect from school, so you know which group you are in.

We will award 2 house points to children who send an email. If you have any questions or worries, please email us and we will reply as soon as we can.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who collected their child’s work pack on Wednesday. If you didn’t collect your child’s work pack you can collect this on Monday 11th January on the school playground between 10:00am and 10:20am.

When we came back to school, we read Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. It helped us to think about the world, what has happened this year and our place on the planet. We looked at how humans are the same but also how we are all different and why this is a good thing. We also looked at the positive impact lockdown has had on the environment and made posters about how we can continue to look after it.

Happy Half Term!

You have all worked very hard this half term and really deserve an enjoyable break. Remember to stay safe, keep washing your hands and only meet other households outdoors. Have fun with your families and look after each other.

Don't forget your homework! Lots of times tables practice, learning your spellings and your Roman research! Try to read for a little (or a lot!) each day and remember to do some exercise.

We look forward to seeing you all ready for lots more learning and fun next half term!

Take care, stay safe and enjoy your holiday,

Horrid Henry's Favourite Place

In literacy we have been reading different Horrid Henry books by Francesca Simon. They're very funny! We created new characters and practised using expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases. For our final piece of writing we wrote descriptions of Horrid Henry's favourite place.
