Remote Learning

Your parent or carer will need to collect your resource pack every Monday between 10:00 am and 10:20 am on the school playground.

Monday 18th January 2021

Good morning Class 4!

Thank you again for all those parents and carers who returned your work packs and thank you for all your hard work. I was really pleased with lots of your work last week - well done. Some of you will get dots with today's pack so keep filling in your dot cards and remember to let us know when you complete a colour so we can send out your treat!

For this week's English groups 1 and 2 are continuing with The Great Kapok Tree book. We will be looking at different word types, how to write descriptively, looking at coordination & subordination and then using all the skills we have learned to write a formal letter as if we are the logger.

Group 3 your English is all about Robins. You will have some reading and a comprehension; a lesson on statements and questions; work on the lifecycle of the robin and at the end of the week you will produce a fact file using all the information you have learned.

Group 4 you have lots of word and sentence work to help you with your English. Remember also to log onto Flash Academy to help you to keep practising your language.

Please remember, if you have any difficulties with your English to email me (Miss Chambers) as I set and mark all the English work and Miss Irwin sets and marks all the maths.

Please remember that, as well as doing your English lessons it's important to go on Ed Shed and practise your spellings. Please click onto the assignments link as I set these each week for you to be able to practise and learn that week's spellings for your group. Please try and read every day too.

This week you will see that there is a timetable link at the top of the page. There are instructions for the timetable in your pack and it gives you an idea of how you might structure each day's learning. This week, as well as Maths, English and spelling, there are handwriting activities, geography (based on the rainforest), science and PHSE - lots to keep you busy!

Maths

This week’s maths lessons focus on different areas of maths depending on the group you are in. Look at the cover sheet of your maths pack that you collect from school, so you know which group you are in.

Group 1 will be learning about numbers 11 to 20, group 2 will continue to learn about money, group 3 will continue with their work on multiplication and division and group 4 will be learning about perimeter. The questions on page 1 of your sheet are the easier questions, so try to complete all of the first page. The second side of the sheet will cover more difficult questions, with the most challenging questions at the end of the sheet. Remember to read each question carefully. If you can’t do one of the questions you can watch the video again or see if an adult can help you. You can always leave a question and go onto the next one. Just try your best and do what you can. If you have any questions about maths, please email Miss Irwin.

Keep practising your mental maths skills on Numbots and times tables on TT Rockstars. Have a go at the Rockslam challenge Miss Irwin has set as well as practising in Soundcheck. To practise a specific times table go into the Arena or Garage. You can also use your Times Tables Race Mat to practise your times tables. You will find a new Race Mat in your class pack. There is also a Times Tables ladder on the back of the Race Mat. The instructions on how to use the ladder are on the back of your class letter. Miss Irwin will award house points for using TT Rockstars and Numbots.

Finally, remember to take some time each day to relax and do something you enjoy. Try to get some exercise - there is an active link at the top of our page with lots of different activities to help you get moving.

Please remember if you have any difficulties with your English or want to share some amazing work you can email me:

sophie.chambers@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

I will get back to you as quickly as I can during the week.

For any maths questions or problems email:
melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Have a great week Class 4.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Monday 11th January

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe, well and getting used to being back in lockdown. Today your parents should have collected your new work pack from school and handed in your one from last week. All the instructions you need are at the front of your English and maths packs. You will find the links at the top of this page, just click on the appropriate star.

English

For English, in groups 1 and 2 we are starting a new unit all about the Amazon rainforest. Each day follow the instructions in the pack for that day's lesson and click on the links and videos to help you. On Wednesday you'll be able to go on a virtual fieldtrip to the rainforest! Please make sure you have a really good go at each lesson but only do one lesson each day! If you find something difficult ask someone at home if they can help you. Don't worry if no one can, you can email me or leave anything that is too tricky.

If you are in group 3, you will be looking at poetry by Michael Rosen and you will find all your links and video by following the instructions in your pack and clicking on the stars.

For group 4 (KS2 Language group) you will be following lessons on Flash Academy. You will find your group page on the Classes' page - click on KS2 Language Group. There is also a link to Flash Academy at the top of this page. You will just need to log in and follow each day's lessons. Please contact Miss Chambers if you have any logging in issues.

At the back of your English pack in groups 1 - 3 you will find your Spelling Shed tasks. From next week there will be links on this page so that you can follow the PowerPoints to help you. If you have any problems with your English please email me -  sophie.chambers@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Also if you would like to send some work, I would love to see that as well. Remember to keep all your work safe so that it can be returned to school next Monday.

Maths

This week’s maths lessons focus on different areas of maths depending on the group you are in. Look at the cover sheet of your maths pack that you collect from school, so you know which group you are in.

Group 1 will be learning about shape, group 2 will be learning about money, group 3 will be learning about multiplication and division and group 4 will be learning about length.

Remember Class 4, as well as doing your schoolwork it is important to get some exercise. Joe Wicks is back doing his fun workouts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Go to Joe Wicks’ YouTube page, The Body Coach TV from 9am today. It's also important to take breaks just like we would at school and do something you really enjoy.

Miss Irwin and I love hearing from you. You can send work you are proud of or get our help. Miss Irwin will be looking after all the maths and from next week science and I am all things English, spelling and from next week topic.

Hello Class 4

I hope you are all well and managing your first week away from school. I know it must have been a shock to hear that school would be closing again but it is really important to stay at home and keep safe. Miss Chambers and I miss seeing your happy, smiling faces in school and would love to hear from you. You can share what you have been doing in your first week at home or just simply say hello. We will award 2 house points to children who send an email. If you have any questions or worries, please email us and we will reply as soon as we can.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who collected their child’s work pack on Wednesday. If you didn’t collect your child’s work pack you can collect this on Monday 11th January on the school playground between 10:00am and 10:20am.

Please try to complete the English activities in the pack and five activities from the Maths pack. If you complete more activities that’s great.  Remember to keep reading, practise your spellings on Ed Shed, practise your times tables on TT Rockstars and mental maths on Numbots. You will receive rewards (house points and/or dots) for completing your work each week. We will explain more about dots next week.

Your parent or carer will need to return your completed work on Monday 11th January on the school playground between 10:00am and 10:20am.

On Monday, you will also receive a new pack and a treat. Your pack will include the instructions, resources and activities you will need to complete next week’s online learning.

If you cannot access the online learning, there will be a work pack for you to complete. This will mean everyone has work to complete for the week.

Miss Chambers will update our class page on Monday with more information about home learning and the activities for the week.

Take care everyone.

Stay safe and keep smiling.

Here We Are

When we came back to school, we read Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. It helped us to think about the world, what has happened this year and our place on the planet. We looked at how humans are the same but also how we are all different and why this is a good thing. We also looked at the positive impact lockdown has had on the environment and made posters about how we can continue to look after it.

Our Display

Happy Half Term!

You have all worked very hard this half term and really deserve an enjoyable break. Remember to stay safe, keep washing your hands and only meet other households outdoors. Have fun with your families and look after each other.

Don't forget your homework! Lots of times tables practice, learning your spellings and your Roman research! Try to read for a little (or a lot!) each day and remember to do some exercise.

We look forward to seeing you all ready for lots more learning and fun next half term!

Take care, stay safe and enjoy your holiday,

Horrid Henry's Favourite Place

In literacy we have been reading different Horrid Henry books by Francesca Simon. They're very funny! We created new characters and practised using expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases. For our final piece of writing we wrote descriptions of Horrid Henry's favourite place.
