Good Morning Class 4!

I can’t believe that this is my last message to you as Class 4. It has been a very strange end to the year and I’m really sorry that we didn’t get to spend the whole of year 4 together. You are such an amazing class and I have many fond memories of the great times we had in Class 4. Thank you for working so incredibly hard during lockdown and a huge thank you to your parents for supporting you with your learning. Miss Chambers and I really do appreciate it.

Haseeb and Moris have both worked very hard to complete lots of activities from their maths packs. Well done Moris you have earned 12 house points for Malala and Haseeb you have earned 17 house points for Farah!! Brilliant work boys.

Don’t forget, you can still collect your Maths and English pack from the school office, tomorrow morning is the last day you will be able to collect it as tomorrow is the last day of the summer term.

I hope you all have a lovely summer break. I will visit you in your new classroom when you are in year 5 with Miss Hodgson to say hello and see how you all are.

Thank you again for being a wonderful class.

Take care and stay safe.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe and well. It continues to feel very strange ending our school year like this but Miss Irwin and I continue to be very proud of how you have all coped during the school closure and how supportive your parents have been whilst having to home school. We would like to say a huge thank you to them all for helping you through these difficult times and supporting the school.

Thank you to Ewa for your lovely Memories of the Year work and well done to Haseeb for all your work on Voices in the Park. They have both earned more House tokens. If you have any remaining work to send to me or Miss Irwin, please can you send it tomorrow morning as we have to tally up the final House points totals ready for Mrs Holt to add up all the totals ready to share the end of year results on Friday!

As we are taking it a bit easier this week I have put some links to a few English games below. You can practise your spellings, adjectives and editing verbs and adverbs. I hope you enjoy them.

Good Morning Class 4!

I can’t believe that this is the last week of the summer term and when you come back to school in September you will be in year 5 with your new teacher Miss Hodgson. Miss Chambers and I are really sad that we didn’t get to teach you for the whole year and we really appreciate how you have adapted to learning at home. So many of you have worked incredibly hard during lockdown and we are so proud of you. Each week you have completed your Maths and English activities from the class page or work pack (some of you have worked super hard and even completed both). We have been amazed at the work you have produced and hope you continue to produce brilliant work when you are in year 5.

This week I have set some fun summer maths activities for you to try. You don’t have to do them all, just choose the ones that you like. You might want to even do some during the summer holidays, but remember to make sure you have a rest and relax during the summer break too.

Ewa and Alan have both been busy completing the online maths lessons on data handling. Well done Ewa – you have earned lots of house points for Greta and Alan you have earned more house points for King. Thank you for continuing to work hard at home. Haseeb and Horia have both worked hard to complete the transition activities for Miss Hodgson – well done you have both earned points for Farah and I’m sure you have impressed your new teacher.

Don’t forget, Miss Chambers and I have put together a final English and Maths pack for you to do. You can collect this from the school office. We will also be sending your fantastic school reports home this week. Some will be delivered by post or by Miss Chambers and I. For those of you who have siblings at school they will bring your report home for you. Don’t forget to ask your parents if you can read it too. Miss Chambers and I really enjoyed writing them and I am sure you and your parents will enjoy reading them.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Keep smiling and have fun.

Stay safe and well.

Monday 20th July 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I can't believe that this is our final Monday 'together' as Class 4. When you come back to school after the holidays you will be in Class 5 - Miss Irwin and I are really going to miss you but I know you will have a brilliant time with Miss Hodgson.

As it is the final week of term, Miss Irwin and I decided to just set fun activities this week. Below there is an End of Year Memories sheet to fill in all about this year. There are lots of word searches, some colouring sheets and a fun picture quiz. I hope you enjoy doing them. I really hope you are able to get out safely this week and enjoy the sunshine - if we were at school we'd definitely be spending lots of time outside. Remember to protect yourself with sun cream and a hat when outside and drink lots of water too to keep hydrated.

Well done to Alan for some great work - it was lovely to receive more of your wonderful work and Ewa has continued to be very busy producing even more amazing work. Check out her strange story about me and Russell Crowe!! They have both earned House points and helped King and Greta.

Check out the House Token Tracker totals below. King earned 14 points last week and Greta earned 16. This week you can send work in up until Thursday and I will post the final totals of the year on Friday.

I hope you all have a great Monday and enjoy the sunshine.

I hope you are still managing ok with your home learning. We are nearly at the end of year 4 and when you come back to school in September you will be in year 5 with your new teacher, Miss Hodgson. She is very excited to meet you all. Miss Chambers and I had a meeting with Miss Hodgson and told her how lucky she is to have such a wonderful class. We told her how hardworking, funny, kind and caring you are, as well as the things you are really good at and also some of the things you may need support with. She is a fantastic teacher and you will love being in her class. If you didn’t look at our class page yesterday there is a message below and a task for you to do from Miss Hodgson.

Haseeb shared some exciting news with us, last week his little baby sister was born. Congratulations to you and your family Haseeb. We hope you are enjoying your time with your little sister, I am sure you will be an amazing big brother.

Ewa has worked hard to complete the online maths lessons on data handling. Well done Ewa – you have earned lots of house points for Greta.

Good Morning Class 4!

It is nice to see the sun shining again. I can’t believe we are in the last two weeks of the summer term. It still feels very strange teaching children from year 6 and setting work for you to do at home, especially as this is the time of the year when we would be starting to do all the fun things like sports day, the Jamie Wilson tournament, talent shows, watching the year 6 performance and celebrating your achievements in special assemblies. It has been such a different kind of year and Miss Chambers and I miss you all very much. We really appreciate how hard you are working at home and are very proud of you.

This week’s online maths lessons are all about data handling. There are also lots of links to different websites on the maths learning project page below to help you with your mental maths and times tables. I will post a talking, creative or science task on our class page on Thursday.

Alan, Haseeb and Zoya have been very busy with their maths work. Haseeb earned lots of house points for Farah for completing the online maths lessons. Well done Haseeb! Zoya has continued to work incredibly hard, completing lots of the online maths tasks. Well done Zoya – lots more house points for Greta. Alan has been working hard to complete the online maths lessons and earn house points for King. Well done!

Fantastic work everyone – well done!

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and were able to get out in the sunshine. This is our penultimate (2nd to last) week of the school year. It feels so strange to be ending the year without actually seeing you - Miss Irwin and I are both so sad about this but continue to be incredibly proud of all the hard work you are doing. When you come back to school you will be in Class 5. Click on the letter below to find out who your new teacher will be. On Wednesday your new teacher will be posting on our Class page and setting you a transition activity.

Below are the Literacy lessons 1 - 3. Today's lesson is all about telling jokes! I hope you enjoy it. For spellings this week continue practising any words you still find tricky from the 3/4 list. You can play the game from last week to help you practise them.

Thank you to Ewa and Haseeb who sent in lots of their wonderful work last week and earned lots of House tokens.

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all keeping safe and well. What a wet day it is, I hope it brightens up and the sunshine comes back soon! Yesterday evening I went on a long walk around Rushcliffe Country Park so I could get some exercise and fresh air but I did get very wet. One good thing about the rain though, I didn’t have to water all the plants in my garden and they love the rain. My tomato plants are growing well and the flowers in my garden are looking lovely too. When the rain stops I will take some photos and put them on our class page.

Aya, Horia and Sarah have been busy completing lots of maths work. Aya has completed some fantastic work on shape and multiplication problems. Well done Aya, you have earned lots of house points for Farah. Sarah has completed some super maths work on multiplication, division, factors and fractions. Well done Sarah, you have earned 10 house points for all your work. Horia has been busy completing work on area and perimeter and always sends lovely email updates about what she has been busy doing. Thank you Horia, I really enjoy reading your emails. You have earned lots more house points for Farah.

Don’t forget if you haven’t had chance, there are English and Maths lessons you can still have a go at and you can make a card or draw a picture for Mrs Burton and Mrs Benton. Remember to practise your times tables, try to complete the Rockslam challenges I have set and spend some time reading.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you are all keeping safe, well and dry! It was very wet yesterday!! I prefer the sunshine but the garden loves the rain, as does my allotment and everything is growing really well. Look at my Monday harvest in the pictures below. I love growing my own food - it's super tasty! Has anyone grown anything at home? I'd love to see or if any of you budding chefs have been cooking I'd love to share some more of your great photos with the Class.

Below you will find the next 3 Literacy lessons. Today's is a comparison of the Night Shimmy and a book called Silly Billy. Then on Thursday and Friday you'll get to read another book by Anthony Browne called Voices in the Park. I hope you enjoy the lessons. For spellings this week you can practise and test yourself on words or patterns of spellings you find difficult. Follow the link below and play the game.

Thank you for more amazing work this week. It was lovely to hear from Aya and receive so much wonderful work. She has earned lots of House tokens for Farah. I hope you and your families are all well. I can’t believe we only have a few more weeks left of the summer term. It still feels very strange setting work for you to do at home. I hope you are able to do some English and Maths each day either from our class page or the activity packs you have at home. Remember to do a little exercise each day too, read and practise your times tables.

This week’s online maths lessons are all about measurement. There are also lots of links to different websites on the maths learning project page below to help you with your mental maths and times tables. I will post a talking, creative or science task on our class page on Thursday.

Alan, Horia, Haseeb and Zoya have been very busy with their maths work. Zoya earned lots of house points for Greta for completing the online maths lessons. Well done Zoya, you have been a busy lady. Haseeb has continued to work incredibly hard, completing lots of maths tasks and the science activities. He has been learning about light and he also did some work on adaptation. Well done Haseeb – lots more house points for Farah. Alan has been working hard to complete the online maths lessons and earn house points for King. Weekly Maths Lessons - Measurement

Monday 6th July 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. It was rather odd weather - sunshine, showers and very strong wind! Yesterday I walked to Stonebridge City Farm - a farm right in the city. I am sure some of you have visited it. Although it's not properly open we were able to walk round and see the animals. There were pigs, cows, horses and goats. There were some really cute billy goats. Have a look at the pictures below.

It is still really strange teaching our 'bubble' rather than our Class at school and Miss Irwin and I miss you all very much. The first 2 of this week's Literacy lessons are below and I will put the rest, along with the spellings, on here on Wednesday. I have also included the Year 3/4 spelling list so that you can have a look at all the words you need to know. Get someone at home to test you and try and learn any ones that you find difficult. This will be good to get you ready for Year 5.

Usually at this time of the school year we would be having transition mornings and afternoons to allow pupils to meet their new teachers. This year your new teacher will introduce themselves on your Class page and set you transition activities. This will happen next week. These will also be sent out in the final work pack of the term. As well as your schoolwork I hope you are busy making cards and pictures for the staff that we will sadly be saying goodbye to: Mrs Benton, Mrs Burton (Class 2) and Mr Burton.

As well as all that, remember to get some exercise every day, keep reading lots, try and watch Newsround to find out what is happening in the world and take some time to relax and do something you really enjoy. We'd love to see pictures of your work and any other activities you have been getting up to.

Finally, you did some amazing work last week and there is lots to look at below. It was great to receive more work from Alan - well done. As always Ewa has been incredibly busy and produced lots of amazing work. Well to Horia for your grammar work and Zoya for completing your Willow pattern work so well. Lastly, a huge well done to Haseeb who completed all the lessons excellently and even had time to produce a beautifully coloured in fish to brighten up our page. Haseeb earned an amazing 17 House tokens for all his work and his Mum also earned a House token for Farah this week as she has been working incredibly hard supporting Haseeb in his home schooling. Have a look at how these children's work has affected the House Token Tracker totals.

.

Have a great Monday Class 4.

Important Letter for Children and Parents about Teachers Leaving

 Thursday 2nd July 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all keeping safe and well. Yesterday, Miss Chambers and I visited some of you and your families delivering English and maths work packs. It was lovely to see those of you who were at home and it certainly brightened up our day. For those of you who were not at home then we posted your packs through your letterbox. There is lots of work to keep you busy. There are still a few packs in the school office for families who said they would come and collect them, if you are unable to come to school to collect them, please email me or Miss Chambers and we will get them to you. We will be putting one more pack together towards the end of the summer term and we will let you know when this is ready to collect.

Ewa, Horia and Haseeb have been incredibly busy completing lots of maths work. Ewa has completed the online lessons and the work on factors and multiplication problems. Well done Ewa, you have earned lots of house points for Greta. Haseeb has also completed some multiplication problem solving work and lots of arithmetic work too. Horia has been busy completing work on angles in triangles and quadrilaterals. Well done Haseeb and Horia, you have both earned lots more house points for Farah.

This week’s science task is all about adaptations which you learned a little bit about earlier in lockdown. If you click the link  it will take you to the Oak National Academy website and you can learn about the conditions in different environments and the characteristics that different animals have to help them to survive. Your task will be to draw and design an environment and design a creature that can be adapted to your environment.  I would love to see your fantastic environment and creature. Good luck!

Welcome to July! I can’t believe that it is the last month of our school year. As 2020 is a leap year, today is exactly halfway through the year. Today is the 183rd day and we have 183 to go. I wonder if the next 183 will be easier?

It has been a long time since we were all in our classroom together learning and now we will be ending the year virtually! Miss Irwin and I really miss you all but continue to be so proud of how you are working. The next three literacy lessons are below, along with links to the spelling activities. I really hope you enjoy reading the poems I have set you.

I have been over the moon with the work children have been sending in this week. It has been lovely to receive so much work from Alan – well done. You have earned lots of House tokens for King. Haseeb is continuing to produce some excellent work. Check out all his brilliant writing below. More House tokens earned for Farah – well done. Finally, a huge well done to Ewa who has produced so much excellent work this week she has managed to earn 11 House tokens so far and she’s in Greta!! Tuesday 30th June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

Today is the last day of June. This month really has flown by and I can’t believe it will be July tomorrow. Miss Chambers and I are still busy in school teaching our bubble of year 6 children. More children joined our bubble yesterday and they adapted to the new routines quickly. We all have to wash our hands lots and try to keep a safe distance between us.

I know Miss Chambers contacted some of you by phone or email last week to catch up with you and your family and to see how you are getting on with your learning at home. She enjoyed speaking to you and reading you messages. After I finish teaching the year 6 bubble today, I will be contacting some more of you for a catch up and to see how you are managing with your school work at home. We really appreciate how hard you are working and that you must miss your friends and all the fun things we get to do in school, particularly in the summer term. You are doing a fantastic job and we are very proud of you. Don’t forget if you haven’t collected your Maths and English work pack then your parents can get this from the school office and some additional stationery resources too.

I have set four online maths lessons for the week which are the final set of lessons linked to multiplication and division problem solving. For your fifth lesson I would like you to practise your times tables and mental maths skills. There are lots of links to different websites on the maths learning project page below to help you with your mental maths. I will post a talking, creative or science task on our class page on Thursday.

A huge thank you to Moris for sending in so much maths work. It is lovely to hear from you and see how hard you have been working. Well done, you earned lots of house points for Malala. Zoya earned lots of house points for Greta for completing the online maths lessons. Well done Zoya, you have been a busy lady. Haseeb has continued to work incredibly hard, completing lots of maths tasks and the science activities. He has produced a super poster to help you learn about sound. Well done Haseeb – lots more house points for Farah. Alan has been working hard to complete the online maths lessons and earn house points for King. Fantastic work everyone – well done!

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe and well and that you all had a great weekend. Was it windy where you were? It was unbelievably windy here but feels calmer today. I cannot believe this is the 5th week of this term. The summer term is usually really busy with sports events and assemblies as we celebrate the year. It feels sad that we won't have the usual end to the year but I am so proud of how everyone is getting on. This term is also when we have to say goodbye to Year 6 and sometimes staff who are leaving. Please make sure you scroll down as two amazing teachers are retiring this year. There is lots of information about what you can do so that we can say goodbye to them during this strange term.

Also below you will find today and tomorrow's Literacy lessons. They focus on a great book called Zoo by Anthony Browne. I hope you enjoy them. I will post this week's spelling work on Wednesday along with the lessons for the rest of the week.

Last week I emailed and called some of the Class. It was lovely to receive messages and speak to some of you. Miss Irwin and I will be continuing to do that this week, in between teaching our Year 6 'bubble'.

Thank you so much to the children who sent in lots of work last week - you are all amazing. It was great to hear from Moris and receive lots of his English work. It was also lovely to hear from Sarah again. Have a look at all her amazing writing. Haseeb has continued to wow me with all his outstanding English work. He even took the time to paint a beautiful picture to go with his Willow Pattern work. Finally, have a look at all the wonderful work Zoya has produced. They have all earned lots of House tokens - have a look at last week's House Token Tracker Totals below.

I hope you all have a great Monday. As well as doing your school work, remember to get some exercise, drink lots of water and eat some healthy food. Also start to think about your ideas for Mrs Burton and Mrs Benton's retirement cards or pictures. You should have a busy day!

Take care, stay safe and keep learning,

Mrs Burton (Class 2) and Mrs Benton are Retiring

Mrs Burton (Class 2)

Sadly, Mrs Burton will be leaving our school at the end of the summer term. She has been teaching at Bentinck for a very long time and has taught lots of you in Class 2 and I am sure lots of your brothers and sisters. Mrs Burton helped me to train to be a teacher when I came to Bentinck so it will be very sad to say goodbye and she will be greatly missed by everyone.

As we can’t do the usual things we would when someone leaves, Miss Tibbitts and the KS1 team would love you to make special cards or send in messages to say goodbye to Mrs Burton. If you have older brothers or sisters who remember Mrs Burton teaching them they could make a card or write a message too. Please send your messages, cards or pictures to Miss Tibbitts at sophie.tibbitts@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk by Friday 10th July.

Mrs Benton

Sadly, Mrs Benton will also be leaving our school at the end of the summer term. She has also been teaching for a very long time and she has decided to retire this year. This means she will be leaving all the other schools she teaches computing in too.

We will all miss Mrs Benton enormously and her fantastic computing lessons. As we can’t have a special assembly and give her cards and flowers like we usually do when someone leaves our school, we thought we could have a special retirement page on the website for Mrs Benton.

We would like you to make a special card, write a message or draw a beautiful picture to thank Mrs Benton for teaching you. You could even video a short message for her if you are feeling brave. Maybe if you have older brothers or sisters who remember Mrs Benton teaching them they could make a card or write a message too.

Please send your messages, cards or pictures to me at sophie.chambers@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk by Friday 10th July. We will put everyone’s messages together in a special retirement presentation for Mrs Benton. Remember to put your name and class on your card or message so Mrs Benton knows who it is from.

Good luck and have fun making your cards and messages.

House Token Tracker Time!

It was great to see so many children earning tokens last week and it is getting very exciting. King earned 6 tokens - remember if you're in King get sending in your work to help your House. Well done Greta on a good 22 House points and Farah for 23. A huge well done though to Malala for an impressive improvement, scoring 31 House tokens.

Good Morning Class 4!

My goodness the weather is so different this week. Yesterday was really hot and it looks like today is going to be another very hot and sunny day. If you go outside to play or do some exercise, remember to put suntan lotion on to protect your skin and wear a sunhat if you have one. Don’t forget to drink lots of water too, to stay hydrated.

Thank you Haseeb and Ewa for continuing to work incredibly hard and competing the online maths lessons – you have both done a fantastic job and earned more house points for Farah and Greta.

This week’s science task is all about sound which we would have been learning about in the spring term. If you click the link it will take you to the BBC Bitesize website and you can learn the basics of how we hear sounds. There is lots of information and three videos to help you understand what sound is and how we hear sounds. There are three activities on the website to have a go it. If you complete activity 3, please email your poster and I will put it on our class page. Remember to use the key scientific vocabulary and diagrams to make your poster clear and eye catching. Good luck!

Don’t forget if you haven’t had chance, there are English and Maths lessons you can still have a go at. Remember to practise your times tables, try to complete the Rockslam challenges I have set and spend some time reading.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Good morning Class 4!

Wow, what amazing weather! I hope you are managing to get out in the sunshine. Remember to be careful, use suntan lotion, wear a hat and drink plenty of water.

Everything in my allotment is growing really well. I have to go up first thing in the morning to water all the plants. I took the photos below for you so you could see what I’m growing.

I hope you are getting on well with this week’s Literacy lessons. The next two involve poetry. I can’t wait to see your wonderful work. Thank you and well done to Ewa for some great present and past tense work and have a look at Haseeb's excellent present perfect tense work - he has really understood it and produced some excellent writing. They have both earned House tokens. Remember to keep sending in your wonderful work to earn points for your House.

I am off to school today to sort out all our science resources and to have a meeting all about writing so we are ready for September.

Have a great day, enjoy the sunshine and stay safe!

Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 23rd June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all well and you are managing to complete some school work, whether it’s the lessons that Miss Chambers and I set on our class page each week or from the English and Maths packs we have put together for you. Don’t forget, we put new packs together last week and these are available to collect from the school office. If you have run out of paper, pens, pencils or any other stationery, there are some resources available from the office that you can collect which will help you to complete your work. Don’t forget it is important to try and do a little exercise each day too. It looks like the sunny weather is here for a while so you could go out for a walk with your family. I am going to try and go on some more walks after work this week and do some more gardening at the weekend.

Last week Miss Chambers and I finished writing your school reports. It felt very strange writing them, as it has been such a long time since you were in our classroom. We miss you all lots and really appreciate all the hard work you are doing at home and we love receiving your emails and hearing all about what you have been doing.

This week, I am teaching the same year 6 bubble ‘The Phoenix Kingdom’. I teach them on a Monday and Tuesday and Miss Chambers teaches them on a Thursday and a Friday. It is lovely to have children in school again and later this week, some of our year 1 children will be starting.

I have set five more online maths lessons for the week which are linked to multiplication and division problem solving. Remember to also keep practising your times tables. I have set a few Rockslam Challenges on TT Rockstars so it would be lovely to see more children in class 4 completing these. I will post a talking, creative or science task on our class page on Thursday.

Well done Hammam for completing lots of maths activities from your work pack – you have been very busy and earned lots of house points for Malala.  Ewa and Alan have both completed lots of the online maths lessons. Well done Ewa you have earned house points for Greta and Alan you have earned points for King. Come on Farah!

Keep working hard class 4.

Keep smiling and have fun.

Stay safe and well.

Good morning Class 4

I hope everyone had a great weekend and managed to enjoy the lovely sunshine. We bought a gazebo for our garden which meant we were able to stay outside and keep dry even during the showers! I hope everyone is still managing with home schooling and being away from school and all your friends. Miss Irwin and I still miss the class so much.

Last week I taught our Year 6 'bubble'. Our Kingdom is called the Phoenix Kingdom and we made a film and rerecorded the Baked Potato song explaining the rules of our kingdom - check it out on Class 6's page with one of the other kingdom films.

This week is our last week of work on The Great Kapok Tree. I was overwhelmed by the brilliant work sent in for last week's lessons - you made me very proud and earned lots of House tokens. Well done to Alan for some great adverbial work and Ewa for some impressive imperative verb work. Have a look at Haseeb's brilliant work for all the lessons and his final piece of writing, the letter from the man explaining why he didn't cut down the tree - it's excellent. Very well done to Zoya for all her amazing work for last week's lessons and if you want to learn lots about the animals of the Rainforest have a look at Horia's brilliant PowerPoint presentation with all the information she found on the internet. You all did so well and it made me very happy receiving all your wonderful work and emails. Thank you.

Below you will see the first three lessons for this week. You will be revisiting the book and revising the Present Perfect tense. For spellings this week you will be learning how to use a Thesaurus. There are links to lessons and to an online Thesaurus if you don't have one at home. Have a look at your Year 3/4 spelling list too and remind yourself of all the words you need to know ready for Year 5. I can't wait to see all your wonderful work.

I hope you are all managing to keep fit. I am walking lots and doing Yoga when I can as well as working on my allotment. I will post some more pictures soon of the produce I'm growing.

Have a great Monday Class 4.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning,

House Token Tracker Time!

Last week's House token totals were a little varied. Well done to Farah for earning 15 and very well done to Greta on an impressive 24 tokens earned. Sadly King only earned 1 token and Malala didn't earn any. Remember you'll earn tokens every time you send in your wonderful work whether it is from the website or your home pack so get busy this week and let's see if you can earn even more points for your House.

Good Morning Class 4!

Firstly, I am going to start with a lovely message that Mrs Loft has asked me to send you.

Hello Class 4,

I’ve really missed you all and not being in class with you but I have been looking at all the amazing work you have been doing on our class page. I am really proud of you and just wanted to encourage you to keep up the brilliant work.

Thank you Horia and Aya for my beautiful birthday cards, they are so special. I had a lovely birthday and saw some of my family which was really nice. I had lots of lovely gifts and cards and the sun was shining. Take a look at some of my photos below.

Take care,

Mrs Loft smiley

Mrs Loft's Birthday Pictures

It looks like Mrs Loft had a lovely birthday.

If you would like to send Mrs Loft a message then you can email her at sandra.loft@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

I am sure she would love to hear from you.

This week has been a busy week. On Monday and Tuesday I was in school teaching one of the year 6 bubbles. It was really nice to have some children back in our classroom, although it was quite strange as there are only five children in mine and Miss Chambers’s group at the moment. Miss Chambers is teaching our bubble today and tomorrow. I hope the rain stops so they can have some tine outside today. On Monday and Tuesday we were very lucky as the sun was out for most of the day so the children could have playtime and lunchtime outside. They even sat outside and ate their lunch in their bubbles. Each bubble is going to have a Kingdom name, a motto and a coat of arms. If you would like to see what the year 6 bubbles have called their Kingdom and see their work, there will be a short video from each bubble on the year 6 class page. It will either be on the page on Friday or next Monday.

Thank you to everyone in class 4 who is continuing to work hard at home, I know it must be difficult and frustrating that you can’t come to school.  Don’t forget there are new English and Maths work packs for you to collect from the school office.

Many of you have been very busy completing the maths tasks and have earned lots of house points. Well done Haseeb for completing lots of maths work, you have earned more house points for Farah.  Zoya, Ewa and Hijran have been working hard to earn house points for Greta. Zoya and Ewa have both completed lots of tricky maths tasks and Hijran has made a butterfly mask. Thank you Hijran for my birthday card and for sending in photos of your garden and delicious desserts.

This week’s science task is all about the digestive system which we would have been learning about in school during the summer term. If you click the link below it will take you to the BBC Bitesize website. There is lots of information about the digestive system and teeth. Some of the scientific vocabulary is quite tricky. There are two activities on the website to have a go it. Good luck! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z3nhjsg

Don’t forget if you haven’t had chance, there are English and Maths lessons you can still have a go at, Miss Chambers and I put these on our class page earlier in the week. Remember to practise your times tables and read too. There is also a new creative activity on Mrs Deegan’s page you can have a go at.

Let’s hope the sunshine returns soon so we can all enjoy some time outside.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is well and managing to get out in the sunshine, in between the showers! Although I love the sunshine, the rain has been brilliant for the garden and my allotment. Look at the tasty potatoes and beautiful beetroot I harvested yesterday. Lots more things are growing so I won’t need to buy as much from the supermarket.

Thank you to Aya for the beautiful card for Mrs Loft and to Haseeb for his fabulous fish. Haseeb has also done some great work on adverbials for this week’s Literacy lessons. Well done to Aroosh for her great visualisation work and to Zoya for her fantastic Kapok tree lessons. Finally, a huge well done to Ewa for all her work. She has done an incredible amount so far this week and earned 5 House tokens already. Everyone who has sent in work this week has earned more House tokens so well done to them all.

I hope that everyone is getting on well with this week’s lessons. I am really looking forward to reading your letters at the end of the week. I hope you are continuing to read every day. I would love to hear about the books you are reading.

Wonderful Work, Pictures, Cards and Vegetables!

Tuesday 16th June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

Thank you Class 4 for all you special birthday wishes. Haseeb, Horia and Aya, I loved the beautiful birthday cards that you made for me. I had a very relaxing day and a lovely birthday weekend. Olivia and Isaac spoilt me and made me a delicious birthday breakfast, lovely birthday cards and gave me some fantastic birthday presents. In fact, my lockdown birthday was amazing!! I couldn’t believe how many birthday cards and presents were delivered to my house on Friday and over the weekend. I received the most gorgeous and delicious cupcakes in the post too, take a look below at some of my birthday treats. I did miss not being able to see all my friends and family but I managed to have lots of calls and FaceTime chats over the weekend.

Yesterday, some of our year 6 children came back to school. I am teaching one of the year 6 ‘bubbles’ along with Miss Chambers. Our bubble has some of your siblings in. It was lovely to see them but it did feel quite strange not teaching Class 4. We had a great day and the children adapted very well to the new routines of school; social distancing – the children and I have to keep 2 metres away from each other and we also have to wash our hands lots. We have decided that each of the year 6 bubbles will be a Kingdom. The children in my bubble have come up with the idea of ‘The Phoenix Kingdom’. Today they are going to design the Coat of Arms, motto and rules for their Kingdom.

I have set five more online maths lessons for the week and you will learn all about multiplicative reasoning. The tasks will help you to understand multiplication and help you with your times tables. I hope you enjoy them. There are also links on the maths learning project page to websites for you to practise your mental maths, including times tables, addition and subtraction facts, doubling and halving. I will post the talking, creative and science task on our class page on Thursday.

In the meantime you can still complete the rainforest art tasks; make a rainforest animal mask or create a picture of the rainforest in the style of Henri Rousseau. It would be lovely to put more artwork on our class page.

A huge hank you to everyone who is continuing to work hard at home, completing the online lessons or the Maths and English work packs. Your work and messages really do make Miss Chambers and I very happy. There is a new Maths and English pack ready for you to collect from the school office today.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Miss Irwin's Birthday Treats!

Monday 15th June 2020

Good morning Class 4 and

Happy Birthday Mrs Loft!

A Beautiful Birthday Card from Horia to Mrs Loft

It is a busy month for birthdays and I know everyone in Class 4 wishes Mrs Loft a very happy birthday.

This week we will be welcoming back some of our Year 6 children – it will be very exciting to see them but also rather strange as we will be teaching them in ‘bubbles’. These will be small groups who will have the same teacher. Miss Irwin and I will be back in school on our usual days – Miss Irwin Monday to Wednesday and I will be in Wednesday to Friday. We will still be posting our lessons on here and you can still send us all the work you have done. Our replies may take a little longer than usual as we will be in the classroom as well.

We have also put a work pack together for every child in the class and these will be ready to collect from the office from tomorrow. Parents and carers can collect them between 9 and 11am Tuesday – Friday and just need to give your name.

This week our Literacy lessons are looking at the language used in the book and build up to a writing task. There are also spelling lessons for the Monkey Puzzle group and the rest of the class. You will see all this week's lessons are on today's page. Remember to complete the lessons in order and always read the instructions carefully. As well as completing your lessons, it is really important to keep reading, ideally every day. Remember exercising your body is as important as exercising your brain, so try and do something to keep you fit each day as well.

It has been great to see the work you have done so far in this English unit. Well done to Ewa and Haseeb for more wonderful work. Also have a look at a rather yummy chocolate cake someone has baked! They have earned more House tokens. Check out their work below and have a look at the latest House Token Tracker Totals.

Well done to all those children continuing to earn House tokens. Last week it was very close between Greta and Malala. Greta earned 15 and were just beaten by Malala who managed to get 16. King earned 7 points. If you're in King, get sending your work in to help your House. Well done again to Farah who earned most tokens and scored a very good 26 points.

Good Morning Class 4!

Today I am going in to school to finish getting things ready in the KS2 classrooms for the year 6 children who are returning to school next Monday. From Monday 15th June, Mrs Burton, Mr Burton, Miss Hodgson, Miss Chambers and I will be teaching small groups of children from class 6. I am looking forward to seeing them but it will feel strange not teaching the lovely class 4. Miss Chambers and I will continue to post work and messages on the website and reply to your emails. We are also putting another Maths and English work pack together for you today which should be ready to collect from the office. We will let you know as soon as it is ready.

There is a new science and creative learning project linked to the rainforest for you to complete. There is also a PowerPoint presentation to help you and fact file sheets for you to complete. It would be great to see some of you making and wearing a rainforest animal mask. Don’t forget you still have time to make a birthday card for Mrs Loft which you can send to me or Miss Chambers and we will put it on our class page on Monday 15th June.

Many of you have been very busy completing the maths tasks and have earned lots of house points. Well done Aya and Haseeb for earning more house points for Farah (Miss Irwin’s house).  Zoya, Ewa and Hijran have been working hard to earn house points for Greta – Miss Chambers will be pleased. Amira has completed lots of maths work and has also been busy baking and decorating a cake with the help of her mum and sisters – it looks delicious. Well done Amira, you have earned lots of points for Malala. Finally, well done to Alan for completing the maths and rainforest tasks, you have earned lots of house points for King.

Amira Baking at Home

Wednesday 10th June 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I can’t believe it is Wednesday already. I hope it doesn’t rain all day! Today I will be in school with some of the teachers continuing to prepare for when Year 6 pupils are allowed to return. It will be very strange when they are back as we will be teaching in small groups and all have to stay 2 metres apart. Miss Irwin and I will be making another Home Learning Pack for children in our class which can be collected from the office. I will post further details when they are ready.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Amazon Rainforest ‘fieldtrip’. It is such an amazing place with so much to see and hear and I imagine if you’re there, there would be lots to smell and touch too. I hope you learned all about the Kapok tree as well and why it is called ‘Great’ in the title of our book.

Today we finally get to read the book. There is a link to a great video with sound effects on today’s Lesson sheet. Make sure you read the instructions carefully and stop it at the right places to do your written tasks. For tomorrow’s lesson you will get to do some acting at home and if you’re feeling brave you could video yourself and earn double House points.

It was lovely to hear from Amira and receive lots of the work that she has been busy doing – well done Amira you have earned 3 House tokens for Malala. A huge thank you and well done to Ewa for all the amazing work she sent in. She even had a go at answering all the Class’s questions! She has earned some more House tokens – I’m glad she is in Greta! Haseeb has also answered all our Class questions – have a look at his answers below, you can learn lots! He has also explained why he thinks the Kapok tree is called ‘Great’ in the title of our book. Another House token for Farah – well done. Finally, well done to Zoya for her great work for Lesson 5 – another House token for Greta!

Miss Irwin suggested you could make cards for Mrs Loft as it is her birthday on Monday – I know she would love that. Miss Irwin didn’t mention that it is her birthday on Friday!! So please send me any pictures, cards or messages for Miss Irwin and I will make a special post on here on Friday for her birthday.

I hope you all have a great Wednesday.

Rainforest Work

Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 9th June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all well. The weather is looking a bit brighter again so hopefully you can go outside for a walk or some exercise today or during the rest of the week. I have been out for a few walks, not quite as many as Miss Chambers. She manages to do a lot of walking!! Miss Chambers and I would love to hear about how you are managing to keep fit and healthy.

I have set five more online maths lessons for the week and you will learn all about shape. They include lots of talking, describing and visualisation tasks. I hope you enjoy them. There are also links on the maths learning project page to websites for you to practise your mental maths, including times tables, addition and subtraction facts, doubling and halving. I will post the talking, creative and science task on our class page on Thursday.

In the meantime you might want to make a birthday card for Mrs Loft and send a picture of it to me. Her birthday is next Monday, the 15th June, so it would be lovely to put some cards you have made on the class 4 page for her. You could even draw her a picture, write a special birthday message or sing happy birthday to her and video it.

A huge hank you to everyone who is continuing to work hard at home, completing the online lessons or the Maths and English work packs. Your work and messages really do make Miss Chambers and I very happy. We will be putting another Maths and English pack together for you this week.

Thank you for your emails and for sending in your brilliant work. Well done to Aya, Haseeb, Horia and Zoya for sending in your marvellous maths work. You have all earned lots more house points for completing a lot of maths work. Well done to Horia and Haseeb for creating a beautiful piece of rainforest artwork. Unfortunately, you can only see Haseeb’s artwork as Horia put her painting outside to dry but it rained and her beautiful artwork was ruined. sad What a shame! I would love to see more rainforest artwork and post it on our class page.

Haseeb's Beautiful Rainforest

Monday 8th June 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all managed to have a good weekend despite the weather. I still managed to get out and do some walking and have also been keeping fit doing Yoga! What are you doing to keep fit and healthy? I’d love to hear about your

keep fit routines.

I hope you are enjoying our English topic. This week we will read the book and find out all about the Kapok tree. There will even be a chance to do some acting at home! Today’s lesson lets you ‘visit’ the rainforest with a guided tour – enjoy! Just like last week there are 4 separate lessons, all with the appropriate resources. This week there are also separate lessons for spellings - one for the Monkey Puzzle group and one for the rest of the class. As well as doing your English lessons it’s really important to keep reading. I would love to hear about the books you are reading. You could write a review about your favourite book for our Class page.

Thank you to Aya, Eiliyah, Haseeb, Horia and Zoya for more amazing work. Have a look at Aya’s great work from all last week’s lessons, Eiliyah’s brilliant rainforest picture, Haseeb’s fantastic living rainforest model as well as the writing he has done, Horia’s adverbial work and Zoya’s work from all last week’s lessons. Well done to you all for earning more House tokens. You can check out how many tokens were earned last week and see the running totals below.

From last week’s work children in our class generated lots of questions for things they would like to find out about the Amazon Rainforest. Does anyone know the answers? Please send them in if you do or if one of the questions is yours try and find out the answer this week.

What we want to find out about the Amazon Rainforest:

What animals live in the rainforest?
What trees and plants are there?

How many layers are there in the Amazon Rainforest?

How large is the rainforest?

Do lots of people live there?

Which animal are there most of in the rainforest?

Why is it called the rainforest when it is very hot?

Which is the most dangerous animal in the rainforest?

How many animals die each year?

Have a great Monday Class 4.

House Token Tracker Time!

Well done to all those children who have been busy sending in their work and collecting tokens. Last week King earned 7 tokens, Malala earned 9, Greta earned a very good 23 but out ahead with an excellent 35 tokens was Farah - well done. Have a look how last week's points affect the Token Tracker Totals. Remember keep learning to keep earning!

Good afternoon Class 4 and sorry!!

I have just had an email about Lesson 4 from this week's Literacy and silly Miss Chambers posted the page without the link to the film! Sorry!! The link is below and you just need to watch the first 4 minutes.

Again, many apologies,

Thursday 4th June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you are all well. The weather has most definitely changed! The grass and plants in my garden needed a good water but I do hope the sun comes out again soon.

Lots of you have completed some or all of the online maths lessons this week. Well done Ewa, Horia, Zoya and Haseeb for solving the shape puzzles and problems. You have earned lots more house points!!

Don’t forget that there is a creative art task to complete which is linked to rainforests. It would be lovely to post some beautiful, colourful rainforest pictures on our class page. You can use the Henri Rousseau jungle PowerPoint and the slideshow of Class 6’s rainforest artwork to help you.

Please keep practising your times tables. It would be lovely to see more children in our class playing on TT Rockstars, even if it’s just for 10 minutes a few times a week. The longer you spend on TT Rockstars the more chance Class 4 have of winning the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge. I would love to see Class 4 win the challenge and get double house points.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Marvellous Maths Work!

Wednesday 3rd June 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you are all well and have managed to enjoy some sunshine. It has been beautiful and I have been walking as much as possible when I’m not working! It is a bit rainy today but all our gardens (and allotments!) need it. Hopefully it won’t last too long.

Thank you so much to Aya, Ewa, Haseeb and Zoya for their visualisation pictures from this week’s Literacy Lesson 1 and well done to Haseeb and Zoya for some excellent writing. A big thank you to Haseeb for sending in another wonderful picture and some more amazing grammar work. Well done to Ewa for her brilliant video of her excellent rainforest model – incredibly creative. It was lovely to hear from Sarah who has been reading lots and practising her writing. You have all received House tokens. Check out their wonderful work below.

Did you work out that the sound file was a rainforest? I hope you have found out more facts about rainforests and particularly the Amazon Rainforest. Lessons 3 and 4 are below and have the resources you will need. I look forward to seeing your wonderful work!

Have a wonderful Wednesday Class 4!

Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all well and had a good half term break. I hope you were able to go outside, do some exercise and enjoy the sunshine. Just like Miss Chambers, I spent a lot of time gardening and walking. I have posted some photos of one of the walks I went on with Olivia and Isaac along a canal in the Vale of Belvoir. You can even see Belvoir Castle.

I have set five more online maths lessons for the week. They include lots puzzles and problem solving. I hope you enjoy them. There are also links on the learning project page to websites for you to practise your mental maths, including times tables, addition and subtraction facts, doubling and halving. It is really important to keep practising your times tables ready for when you move in to year 5 in September. I have also included a talking and creative art task linked to the rainforest. You can use the Rousseau PowerPoint and the slideshow of artwork by Class 6 to help you. If you have a brother or sister in year 6, they may recognise their rainforest artwork that they did when they were in Class 4.

Thank you to everyone who is continuing to work hard at home, completing the online lessons or the Maths and English work packs. Thank you for your emails and for sending in your brilliant work - you are amazing! Well done to Alan, Ewa, Hammam, Haseeb, Shareen and Zoya for sending in your wonderful work. You have all earned lots more house points. Take a look at their marvellous maths work, super science and beautiful Eid colouring sheets below.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Maths and Creative Art Learning Project: The Rainforest

Art Work by Class 6 in the style of Henri Rousseau

Monday June 1st 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all had a really good half term and enjoyed the sunshine. I did lots of walking, digging and planting up my allotment and sitting in the garden reading! I have shared some pictures below. I’d love to see what you have been up to. Remember you can send in photos as well as work.

This is the start of our final half term of the school year and it has been a very strange one. Miss Irwin, Mrs Loft and I really miss school and our class and want to see you all so much but at the moment we will be continuing to set work on our Class page for you to do at home.

As Miss Irwin and I will be going into school and working on the phased reopening, we will work our Class page slightly differently. I will put Literacy work on here on Mondays and Wednesdays. Miss Irwin will set her maths and science work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will not be posting on a Friday but I will put the House Token Tracker on our page every Monday.

You will see that for Literacy I have created lessons. One to be done each day and then on Fridays you can complete any tasks you don’t finish in the week. Make sure you do the lessons in order and don’t skip ahead. All the resources are with each lesson and you can send me your work each day. I hope you enjoy them! Remember to keep reading books for pleasure and try to watch Newsround to see what is happening in the world.

Finally thank you to Eiliyah for a lovely lockdown poem, Haseeb for all your hard work and great picture and Shareen for an amazing amount of work and beautiful photo of a butterfly. You have all earned House points – well done.

Have a great Monday,

Stay safe and keep learning!

A Rainbow from Zoya to Class 4!

Friday 22nd May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

If we were at school today, this would be our last day before the half term holiday. For many of you, you will be starting the break by celebrating Eid this weekend – I hope you enjoy the celebrations with your families and friends. Although I imagine many will have to be virtual get togethers.

Happy Eid to all those celebrating this weekend.

It has been the strangest half term of my teaching career and probably the weirdest half term for all you too. I miss school and our class so very much. Thank you for all your hard work this half term and the emails you have sent with all the amazing pictures of you and your wonderful work. You have kept me and Miss Irwin smiling and we are so proud of you. A huge thank you as well to all the parents and carers who have been busy home schooling you during the lockdown – they are all brilliant and deserve a good half term break.

As it is half term Miss Irwin and I won’t be setting any work but you can always email us for a ‘chat’ or to send in more work or photos of what you get up to over the holiday and we will put them on the website at the start of the new half term.

Thank you to Horia for your great grammar and well done to Haseeb for more super SPaG work and a lovely Eid card. A big well done to Ewa for all your super spelling work. More House tokens for you three – well done. Check out this half term’s totals below!

Check out all of Zoya's amazing work too. She has been incredibly busy doing lots of English but still managed to create the beautiful rainbow picture, at the top of the page, for her friends. As I received her work after I had done the House points totals her tokens will go into next half term's.

After the half term break, school will be beginning the process of reopening to some children. We will be continuing to set work on our Class page but it will be slightly different as Miss Irwin and I will be working from school and home. We will post full details of this on Monday 1st June.

Have a wonderful and safe half term.

Take care and keep smiling,

U P d A T E  3

Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

WELL DONE to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. We have managed to maintain our fourth position on the leader board but our average speed has decreased to 3.44 seconds – oh dear! Thank you to all the children who are continuing to practise their times tables and play on TT Rockstars. Do you think we can improve our average studio speed again? Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message to see how well Bentinck is doing.

As you know I set a new class challenge last week to see which class in KS2 could increase their average percentage of active users the most.  Sadly this week there are no winners as each class either had the same number of active users or less.sad Oh dear, what happened? surprise Is it because you are ready for a half term break and didn’t feel as motivated last week?

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 did complete last week’s Rockslam Challenge I set and are also setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Muhammed in class 6, who once again beat my Rockslam score of 61 with his brilliant score of 96. Double house points again Muhammed!!

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars:

Class 3: Momina, Ocean, Adchayan, Agape and Raghd, Nathan and Mharan.

Class 4: Shareen, Zoya, Horia, Sarah, Haseeb, Aya, Ewa and Emily.

Class 5: Alaa, De Fan, Arundhathi, Ithar, Mahira, Geo, Ayokunle, Mariya, and Leighton.

Class 6: Muhammed, Kenneth, Lady, Haleema and Taha.

I would really love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. For the next challenge I will award double house points to the class who increase their average amount of time they use TT Rockstars. As it is half term, you have two weeks to help your class win this challenge.

Please try and go on TT Rockstars at least 2 or 3 times a week or even everyday if you can. This would increase your speed, your stats, your class stats and stats for the whole school. I will set everyone in KS2 a new Rockslam Challenge – if you beat my score you will also receive double house points.

Come on everyone, I know you can be super speedy at your times tables. The more you use TT Rockstars, the quicker you will get, your class speed will improve and our school speed. I will post an update on your class page in two weeks time, Friday 5th June to inform you of our school progress and class stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

If you don’t have your TT Rockstar username or password or have forgotten it, you can email your class teacher or me at melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep smiling, keep learning your tables and be a ROCKSTAR!!

Miss Irwin smiley

Good Morning Class 4!

It looks like it is going to be another beautiful day. Yesterday was such a gorgeous day, very sunny and hot. I went for a long walk in the evening when it was a little cooler and less busy. I took lots of photos of the ducks on the lake in the park for you to see. I know some of you have been on some walks to the park too. Zoya also went for a long walk around the park with her family and she walked around a lake too. She saw ducks and rabbits on her walk.  I hope you can go out for a walk and enjoy the sunshine. Don’t forget to wear a sun hat and put sun cream on too.

I am astounded at how incredibly hard you are all working. Miss Chambers and I are very proud of you all and love receiving your messages, your work and photos. Many of you are continuing to complete your work packs or complete the work we set on our class page each week. You are AMAZING! Thank you so much, it makes Miss Chambers and I so happy.

Thank you Haseeb for more marvellous maths work and your super science work. Hammam has completed lots of maths work from his new work pack and Kovan has been competing some tricky maths questions. Horia has been busy completing the new online maths problem solving lessons. Well done, you have all received lots of house points.

As many of you probably know it is Eid this weekend. Mrs Fredericks has been busy making lots of beautiful Eid cards, which you can take a look at below. You could have a go at designing and making your own Eid card and send it to me or Miss Chambers to put on our class page. I have put an Eid card template on our page to help you as well as Eid colouring sheets.

Keep working hard Class 4. Keep reading, smiling, singing and learning your times tables. Don’t forget to try and go on TT Rockstars, it would be brilliant if our class won this week’s TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge.

Remember to have some time to relax and have fun with your family and enjoy the sunshine.

Keep smiling and stay safe and well.

Take Care,

Good morning Class 4!

It is the middle of our 'school' week already and today is going to be very sunny. I hope you manage to get some time outside to enjoy it. Remember to wear a hat, sunglasses and suntan lotion if you do and make sure you drink lots of water.

As we have been looking at poetry this week I thought it would be nice to do some singing - luckily you won't have to hear me!! Below I have put one of my favourite, uplifting songs and if you look at the lyrics it looks like a poem. Can you identify the 'Secret Strings'? There is also the backing tracking track so you can sing along. Singing makes us feel happy and so is good for our mental health. This song is all about things getting better and looking forward to them. I hope you enjoy singing it. Please feel free to make a video and send it in. We have some great singers in our class and it would be lovely to hear you.

As always you are continuing to send in your amazing work which really helps me and Miss Irwin to stay happy! It was lovely to get some great museum work from Alan - thank you and please keep sending in your work. If you are finding poem writing tricky, have a look at Aya's for inspiration. She has also produced some fantastic artwork. Ewa has been incredibly busy - check out her fantastic English work and well done to Haseeb for his super SPaG work. They have all earned more House tokens - well done to you all.

It would be lovely to see some more poetry on our page and even some singers - double House points for anyone who sends in a poetry performance or singing video.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and enjoy the sunshine safely.

Take care, stay safe and keep smiling!

Amazing Art, Super SPaG and Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 19th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all managing during lockdown, staying safe and keeping well. This week looks like it is going to be a very warm and sunny week. I hope you can go out for a walk to enjoy the sunshine and get some exercise this week. I am going to go for lots of walks this week around my local park with Oliva and Isaac.

I am amazed at how incredibly hard you all working at home. Thank you for your emails and for sending in your brilliant work. Well done to Alan, Ewa, Haseeb, Horia, Kovan, Shareen and Zoya, you have all earned lots more house points. Well done to all the children for playing on TT Rockstars and completing my ‘TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge’. You have helped to keep our school in fourth place on the leader board. I wonder if class 4 can play even more games on TT Rockstars and win the challenge I set last Friday.

Miss Chambers and I also appreciate it is difficult for some children and families to access work online. We know lots of you are busy completing the new English and Maths work packs we delivered to your homes as well as taking part in a range of brilliant activities with your family. A huge thank you to everyone for all their hard work and to the parents for continuing to support your children with their learning. You are all doing a fantastic job!!!

As it is National Mental Health Awareness week I have linked this week’s learning project tasks to the theme of ‘Kindness’ heart as well as setting you some science work.  This week’s online maths lessons are from a different website and involve lots of problem solving. I hope you enjoy them.

Keep sharing your work and sending us messages, it makes Miss Chambers and I smile lots. Remember if you have any questions you can email us too.

Learning Project - Maths, Science and Creative Tasks - Week 7.

Monday 18th May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe and well and managed to enjoy the sunshine this weekend. I have done a lot of walking and lots of sitting in the garden too!

This is the 5th week of this half term and if we were at school we would be breaking up on Friday for the half term holiday. It is still so strange not to be in our classroom learning together. I miss everyone so much and think about everyone in the class a lot. This week is National Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is kindness. It is really important that we look after our mental health as well as our physical. Everyone will have gone through different emotions over the lockdown and we will all continue to do so. When we are apart from friends and family it can feel lonely and make us sad so it really important to talk to the people at home and share how you're feeling. Miss Irwin and I love receiving your work but we also just like hearing from you so if you want to message us we will always reply and have a 'chat'. Check out the link below for a lovely short film and stories of kindness. heart

For this week's Learning Project I thought it would be good to reflect on lockdown, our experiences during it and to create poems about this time. I have written a couple myself which came from how I've been feeling. You can read them below. I have also attached a couple of great examples written by children. There are also links to the Poetry Archive and to Michael Rosen's You Tube channel. Remember when you read a poem read it a few times and have a go at reading it aloud. Think about what it means to you and if it reminds you of anything. Then try and identify the 'Secret Strings' - these might by the rhythm, rhymes, alliteration, repetition, imagery, line length... Then, use all that you have read to help you to create your own poems. All the guidance and instructions are on the Learning Project sheet. There is also a Bitesize lesson on Metaphors and Similes. I can't wait to read your poems. If you're feeling brave you can complete this week's challenge and video yourself performing your poem. Double House tokens for those who manage the challenge!

As well as your schoolwork it's really important to try and get some exercise and to relax and do some things that you really enjoy. I have loved seeing the pictures of you baking and that's a really good thing to do during the lockdown.

Finally thank you to Ali for more of your great art, Eiliyah for your writing about your favourite childhood toy, Kovan for some super seaside questions and Zoya for a great postcard and fabulous 'exhibition'. They have all earned House tokens - well done.

I hope you all have a great Monday.

Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

WELL DONE to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. We have improved our average studio score by 0.08 of a second. Our average studio score is now 3.39 seconds per question which is absolutely AMAZING!! Thank you to all the children who are continuing to practise their times tables and play on TT Rockstars. Do you think we can improve our average studio speed and progress further? Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message to see how well Bentinck is doing.

As you know I set a new class challenge last week to see which class in KS2 could increase their class average speed the most. Although class 6 have the fastest and brilliant average speed of 2.14 seconds, their score actually decreased by 0.01 second. Oh dear year 6! Class 4 increased their speed by 0.11 of a second, class 5 by 0.35 of a second but the WINNERS this week are CLASS 3 who increased their average speed by 0.44 of a second. CONGRATULATIONS CLASS 3 – DOUBLE HOUSE POINTS!!!

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 have completed last week’s Rockslam Challenge I set and are setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Muhammed in class 6 who beat my Rockslam score of 71 with his brilliant score of 95. Double house points again Muhammed!!

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars:

Class 3 – Double Points: Shams, Mohamed, Abdurraham, Momina, Ocean, Adchayan, Agape and Raghd.

Class 4: Jadon, Shareen, Zoya, Horia, Alan, Sarah and Hijran.

Class 5: Kyei, Alaa, Abeer, De Fan, Arundhathi, Justine, Ithar, Mahira, Raees, Geo, Ayokunle, Mariya, Leighton and Abdullah.

Class 6: Shazaly, Rehan, Muhammed, Kenneth, Mohamed and Issa.

I would love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. Next week I will award double house points to the class who increase their average percentage of active users the most.

I will post an update on your class page next Friday informing you of our school progress and class stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

If you don’t have your TT Rockstar username or password or have forgotten it, you can email your class teacher or me at melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep smiling, keep learning your tables and be a ROCKSTAR!!

Wednesday 13th May

Good morning Class 4!

I can't believe it is Wednesday already and 8 weeks since we were all in the classroom together. I am so proud of how well everyone is doing, whether you are doing the work packs Miss Irwin and I delivered last week or keeping up with the tasks we set on here. It is really important to try and do some school work every day.

As well as your work, it is really important to take time to relax, play and have fun. It can be really hard not seeing our friends and I am missing you and all my friends, as I am sure you all are so, here’s a picture. I hope it makes you smile.Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!”

Class 4 Pirates!

As it’s really important to relax, as well as do our work, there is a link below to a great nature game called The Earth Squad where you can play and learn at the same time!

As part of your reading this week have a look at National Geographic Kids. It's full of information about animals, geography and science. Don't forget this week's Literacy Challenge:

Create a new, imaginary animal and design an exhibit for it. Design a backdrop of its habitat and write an explanation for it for the display – you can be really creative! Check out Ewa's example below for some inspiration.

I have been overwhelmed this week by such wonderful work which you can see below. Thank you to Ewa for an amazing amount of work, lovely to hear from Hijran and Hammam – please keep sending in your work, well done to Haseeb for more excellent work, thank you Kovan for supper spellings and creative writing and very well done to Zoya for some super writing and model making for the Toy Project. Class 4's Budding Baker!

Tuesday 12th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you are all staying safe and keeping well. We are now in week 4 of the summer term. It still feels very strange to be setting you work from my computer at home – it really isn’t the same as teaching you face to face in our bright and wonderful classroom.

This week’s learning project is linked to the tasks Miss Chambers set yesterday on the virtual trip to the National History Museum in Washington. Miss Chambers and I would love to have taken all of class 4 on a real trip somewhere, but unfortunately, we can’t do that now as we all have to still stay at home.

I have also included a science lesson about Classification and Scientists discovering new species in this week’s learning project. You will need to watch the PowerPoint below and the activity sheets can also be accessed below. The task is explained in the ‘Lets Wonder’ section of the learning project sheet. I have set five more online maths lessons. This week’s lessons cover multiplication and division of 2 and 3 digit numbers as well as another weekly maths challenge which involves some baking. It would be lovely to see some photos or a video of anyone who does any baking at home. As always, there are times tables tasks to try and I have included daily mental maths challenges. All the work and links can be found in the maths and creative learning project document at the end of this message.

I hope your saw the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge Update last week. If you didn’t, scroll down the page to the message on Thursday 7th May. The children in class 5 had the most children playing on TT Rockstars so they received double house points each and 2 children from class 6 also received double house points as they beat my score on the Rockslam Challenge. Well done Ewa, Ali, Shareen, Kacper, Aroosh, Komal, Zoya, Haseeb, Eiliyah and Horia for playing on TT Rockstars last week – you all earned a house point. Keep playing on TT Rockstars, if you help your class to increase their average class speed the most in KS2, then you will receive double house points.

Thank you to all the children who are continuing to send their work to me and Miss Chambers – it really does make us smile J  Thank you Aya and Sarah for more maths work and it was lovely to hear from Hammam for the first time and see the work he has completed. You will all receive house points – well done!!! Take a look at their work below.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Marvellous Maths

Monday 11th May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

How was your long weekend? I hope you all managed to relax and have some fun with your families. Did you see any of the VE Day celebrations on Friday? It was a beautiful day and lots of streets had distanced street parties. You find out how it was celebrated in this special Newsround report: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52599381

This week, for our Learning Project I thought we'd go on a 'school trip' to... Washington! Miss Irwin and I were planning a trip (not to Washington!) for the summer term but because of our current situation I thought we'd take a virtual trip to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. All you need to do is follow the link below and the click on 'Current Exhibits', you will then be able to explore the museum - it works on laptops, tablets and phones and really feels like you're there. You can explore the Bone Hall, see a life-size model of a Blue Whale, explore the Amazon Rain Forest and even look at T-Rex bones and the last dinosaurs in America. There is a map in the top right hand corner and there are 3 floors to explore. I hope you enjoy it!

All your work for Literacy this week is connected to your Museum 'trip' and I can't wait to see it.

Thank you to Aya, Ewa and Haseeb for sending in more of their brilliant work - check out Aya's brilliant toy design and prototype, Ewa's writing and another of her videos showing her latest creation (inspired by Mrs Deegan I think) and some great work from Haseeb including a letter to himself during the Corona Virus lockdown. They have all earned more House tokens. Check out the House Token Tracker below to see how everyone did last week.

Please keep sending your work in as it really keeps your teachers smiling and it's a great way to earn House tokens!

As well as your school work this week, if you haven't checked them out yet have a look at Mrs Deegan's fabulous crafting page and Mrs Frederick's Cookery page they're both full of ideas and videos of things you can do whilst you're at home.

I hope you all have a great day and enjoy our 'trip'!

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

A huge thank you to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. Our average studio score is still 3.47 seconds per question and Sneinton St Stephen’s Primary School have now caught up. Although we are now listed as 5th on the leader board, both schools have the same score so we are really joint 4th. I think with lots of extra practise we can improve our studio speed and slowly progress further up the leader board. Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message.

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 have completed the Rockslam Challenge I set and are setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Dawud and Muhammed in class 6 who both beat my Rockslam score of 62. Dawud scored 80 and Muhammed scored 95. Double house points each - AMAZING!

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars, some of you have completed my Rockslam Challenge or played in the Soundcheck or other areas of TT Rockstars and I know that Class 5 have completed Mr Burton’s Rockslam Challenges too.

Class 3 are new to TT Rockstars and are doing an amazing job. The following children have been busy on TT Rockstars and will earn a house point: Shams, Mohamed, Maliha, Awais, Abdurraham, Momina, Nathan, Ocean, Adchayan and Eseoghene.

The following children in Class 4 will receive house points for taking part in the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge; Ewa, Ali, Shareen, Kacper, Aroosh, Komal, Zoya, Haseeb, Eiliyah and Horia. Well Done!!

Well done to the following children in Class 5 for playing on TT Rockstars; Alaa, Abeer, De Fan, Arundhathi, Anaya, Justine, Ithar, Mahira, Arooj, Raees, Geo, Ayokunle, Ethan, Mariya, Brayden and Abdullah. This week I am awarding you double house points each as Class 5 have 16 children using TT Rockstars. CONGRATULATIONS CLASS 5!!!

Class 6 have also been busy playing on TT Rockstars. House points for the following children; Shazaly, Owen, Jamar, Dawud, Rehan, Shayal, Lady and Muhammed. Well Done!!

I would love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. I have kept a log of stats for each class; your class average speed, how accurate your class is and the percentage of active users. Next week I will award double house points to the class who increase their class average speed the most.

I will post an update on your class page next Thursday informing you of our school progress and stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

If you don’t have your TT Rockstar username or password or have forgotten it, you can email your class teacher or me at melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep smiling, keep learning your tables and be a ROCKSTAR!!

Thursday 7th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful, warm and sunny Thursday. I hope you are able to go out for a walk with your family and enjoy being outside today. As many of you will know, you received a surprise visit from me and Miss Chambers yesterday, delivering packs to those of you who are unable to complete the work online or print off the sheets. It was lovely to see you and your family. Miss Chambers and I really are missing you and it brightened up our day seeing your gorgeous smiles.  smiley

Thank you to all the children who are continuing to send emails, work, photos and videos of what you are doing to me and Miss Chambers – it’s another thing that helps us during Lockdown and brings a smile to our face. smiley We are amazed at how creative and talented lots of the children in class 4 are. Well done!!! Miss Chambers and I are very proud of you. You can also take a look at Mrs Deegan's or Mrs Fredericks's class pages for new creative and baking activities to try out.

Thank you Haseeb and Zoya for completing the online maths work and well done Haseeb for completing the maths challenge too – there were some tricky questions. Take a look at their work below.

We are not going to set any new tasks for this week, there are lots of maths and literacy activities to do, as well as the creative toy and game making activities you can have a go at or the science task we set on Monday and Tuesday. Remember if you are in Miss Hodgson's English group she has her own page on the website with lots of activities for you to have a go at. I know lots of you have been busy on TT Rockstars and I am going to put a TT Rockstars update on our page later today.

Tomorrow is a special bank holiday. It is the 75th anniversary of VE Day – Victory in Europe, which celebrates the end of World War 2. You can find out all about it on Newsround. Due to the coronavirus outbreak it means many people are commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day within their own homes as all public gatherings that were due to take place to celebrate have been cancelled.

There are still some events that will go ahead that you will be able to watch on the BBC tomorrow. As it is a special bank holiday, lots of people will have the day off work and you do not need to do any school work!! Miss Chambers and I will not be updating our class page tomorrow as we are going to enjoy the bank holiday too and celebrate with our families. Miss Chambers will update our class house points tracker and will add any other work she has received to our class page on Monday.

I hope you all have a safe and happy bank holiday weekend.

Keep smiling.

Miss Irwin smiley

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope that everyone is well and staying safe. The sun seems to be shining a little more so hopefully we will all be able to get outside for some exercise.

Yesterday, lots of the teachers were in school busy making packs for children who can’t get on the website. It was lovely to see everyone but of course we had to stay 2 metres apart and make sure we kept washing our hands. Everyone I spoke to said the same thing though – “We really miss the children!” And we really do – school is not the same without you all but we have to keep doing what we’re doing and one day we will all be back together – I can’t wait.

Lots of children in the class continue to keep making me smile (and earning House tokens) by sending in their wonderful work. Please keep sending it in as it always makes Miss Irwin and I so happy and very proud.

Well done to Aroosh for your beautiful picture. Thank you to Zoya for your brilliant Time Capsule work. Well done to Haseeb for more Time Capsule work, great Favourite Toy writing and pictures and your brilliant Lego Maze design and prototype. Finally thank you and a huge well done to Ewa for more videos and pictures of your work. Ewa has designed and made a brilliant toy – check it out below.

As there are lots and lots of tasks this week for your Literacy learning project, I would just like you to make sure that as well as the reading and writing activities, you have a go at the creative task and try and design a new toy.

Have a great Wednesday, stay safe and keep learning!

Aroosh's Message for the NHS

 Tuesday 5th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I can’t believe it is week 3 of the summer term. It seems such a long time since we were in school learning together in our classroom. I miss seeing you every day, teaching you, helping you and talking to you about the things you like to do or any worries you have. I hope you and your family are staying safe and well. I continue to enjoy receiving your emails and finding out what you are doing at home. As well as learning, I hope you are able to go out for a walk each day with your family and relax and have some time to talk and play games too.

This week’s learning project is linked to the tasks Miss Chambers set yesterday on Toys. I hope you find the creative and talking activities fun and interesting. I have included a science lesson you might find interesting about States of Matter, which we learned about in the Autumn term. I have set five more online maths lessons. The lessons will finish the decimals topic and also include a couple of lessons on money as well as another weekly maths challenge. As always, there are times tables tasks to try and I have included daily mental maths challenges. All the work and links can be found in the maths and creative learning project document at the end of this message. I hope your saw the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge I set for all the children in KS2 last week. If you didn’t, scroll down the page to the message on Thursday 30th April.

Thank you to all the children who are continuing to send their work to me and Miss Chambers – it really does make us smile J  Thank you Horia and Haseeb for more maths work and it was lovely to hear from Komal and Hijran for the first time and see the work they have completed. Maths and Creative Learning Project - Toys - Week 5

Monday 4th May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all had a good weekend and managed to spend some time relaxing with your families. I am doing a lot of video messaging with my family and friends and did a quiz on Saturday with family and friends in Leicestershire, Preston, Liverpool, Bath, Portugal, Turkey and New Zealand!! How are you keeping in touch with your friends and family? Below you can see a video from Ewa of her card to Class 4 - it's a great way to stay in touch with the class.

This week's Literacy Learning Project is all about toys. I am sure that more than ever having toys to play with at home is really important and helps you to pass the time. Just like every week, there are the usual spelling activities and some reading ones too which includes reading a Newspaper - see the attachment below. Linked to the newspaper, there are lots of different activities such as describing and drawing your favourite toy and designing and making a brand new toy. Don't worry if you can't print sheets off just use the ideas and use paper to write and draw your work on. Remember parents and carers can collect stationery from school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9 and 11am.

One of the learning ideas this week is to ask an older member of your family about the toys they played with. I have put some pictures of some of my favourite toys from childhood so you can see what toys were like in the 70s and 80s!

Finally, thank you to the children who continue to send in their work - it always makes me smile and I know Miss Irwin feels the same. Thank you to: Horia for some more super up-levelled sentences, Ali for some super artwork, Ewa for your video and Haseeb for some great Time Capsule work and a brilliant and very creative seahorse picture - have a look at what he recycled and used for the picture. They have all earned House tokens and helped to make our Class page even better.

I hope you all have a great day, manage to get some school work done, exercise, eat something tasty and good for you and take time out to play with some of your toys or have a game with someone at home.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Good Morning Class 4!

Welcome to May! It seems quite unbelievable that we spent the whole of April apart but I am so proud of how hard you are working. It was wonderful to speak to some of you on Wednesday - sorry if it was a bit early! I am absolutely thrilled with all the work I am able to share on here today especially for those children who have sent work in for the first time. Well done to Aroosh, Ewa, Haseeb, Horia, Shareen and Zoya. You can check out all their amazing work below. Have a look at Aroosh and Shareen's creative cards. Zoya has made another fantastic information leaflet about her local area and there is even a letter to Class 4 from Shareen. A wonderful idea to stay in touch with your friends. Please have a go at writing a letter to the class, email it to me and I can share it with everyone on our page. Shareen has also done a great review of Fing by David Walliams. Please keep having a go at the tasks Miss Irwin and I set you each week - check out Haseeb and Ewa's brilliant Time Capsule work. Ewa has also made 2 videos of her wonderful work. Have a look at Horia's brilliant Beowulf picture too. Also check out Class 4's budding Chef making a yummy Cornflake tart! All these children have earned more House tokens and I will put this week's Token Tracker up later today.

Did you see all the celebrations for Captain Tom Moore's 100th birthday? It was very special. There is a link to Newsround here where you can even do a quiz to test your knowledge of him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52471924

Remember that as well as your schoolwork it is really important to take time out to relax and do something you really enjoy. As well as sending in your work, you can send any art or things you make - they will really brighten up our page. Keep doing some exercise each day as well. I hope you all have a great day and wonderful weekend.

Yesterday Miss Chambers managed to give some of you a call and I know she really enjoyed speaking to you and finding out how you have been getting on at home during the past few weeks.

Thank you to everyone for emailing me and Miss Chambers and for sending us your brilliant work - we really do enjoy hearing from you and seeing your work. Thank you Ewa for you maths work and fantastic rocket - more house points for Greta. Haseeb has been busy completing more maths work - house points for Farah. It was lovely to hear from Horia for the first time and see some of the maths work she has completed - well done you have earned house points for Farah! You can see all of their work below.

Keep working hard class 4, you can access the English tasks for reading and spelling if you scroll down the page to the message on Monday and there is also the Covid 19 Time Capsule activity you can complete. The maths and creative activities which link to the Time Capsule activity can be found in Tuesday's message. Remember to keep reading and practising your times tables too. Reading is a good way to relax and take your mind off things.

I am setting all of the children in KS2 a TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge. I will add this to our class page today. Well done to Zoya, Komal and Ewa who have competed the Rockslam and Soundcheck tasks this week - you will all receive house points.

Remember you must all still follow the lockdown guidelines from the Government to keep you and your family safe. It is important to keep exercising, you can go out for a daily walk with your family and maybe do some PE with Joe Wicks. Try to relax and have some fun times with your family too.

Take care Class 4.
