Class 4

Welcome to Class 4!

Good afternoon Class 4 and sorry!!

I have just had an email about Lesson 4 from this week's Literacy and silly Miss Chambers posted the page without the link to the film! Sorry!! The link is below and you just need to watch the first 4 minutes.

Again, many apologies,

Miss Chambers blush

Thursday 4th June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you are all well. The weather has most definitely changed! The grass and plants in my garden needed a good water but I do hope the sun comes out again soon.

Lots of you have completed some or all of the online maths lessons this week. Well done Ewa, Horia, Zoya and Haseeb for solving the shape puzzles and problems. You have earned lots more house points!!

Don’t forget that there is a creative art task to complete which is linked to rainforests. It would be lovely to post some beautiful, colourful rainforest pictures on our class page. You can use the Henri Rousseau jungle PowerPoint and the slideshow of Class 6’s rainforest artwork to help you.

Please keep practising your times tables. It would be lovely to see more children in our class playing on TT Rockstars, even if it’s just for 10 minutes a few times a week. The longer you spend on TT Rockstars the more chance Class 4 have of winning the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge. I would love to see Class 4 win the challenge and get double house points.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Marvellous Maths Work!

Wednesday 3rd June 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you are all well and have managed to enjoy some sunshine. It has been beautiful and I have been walking as much as possible when I’m not working! It is a bit rainy today but all our gardens (and allotments!) need it. Hopefully it won’t last too long.

Thank you so much to Aya, Ewa, Haseeb and Zoya for their visualisation pictures from this week’s Literacy Lesson 1 and well done to Haseeb and Zoya for some excellent writing. A big thank you to Haseeb for sending in another wonderful picture and some more amazing grammar work. Well done to Ewa for her brilliant video of her excellent rainforest model – incredibly creative. It was lovely to hear from Sarah who has been reading lots and practising her writing. You have all received House tokens. Check out their wonderful work below.

Did you work out that the sound file was a rainforest? I hope you have found out more facts about rainforests and particularly the Amazon Rainforest. Lessons 3 and 4 are below and have the resources you will need. I look forward to seeing your wonderful work!

Have a wonderful Wednesday Class 4!

Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all well and had a good half term break. I hope you were able to go outside, do some exercise and enjoy the sunshine. Just like Miss Chambers, I spent a lot of time gardening and walking. I have posted some photos of one of the walks I went on with Olivia and Isaac along a canal in the Vale of Belvoir. You can even see Belvoir Castle.

I have set five more online maths lessons for the week. They include lots puzzles and problem solving. I hope you enjoy them. There are also links on the learning project page to websites for you to practise your mental maths, including times tables, addition and subtraction facts, doubling and halving. It is really important to keep practising your times tables ready for when you move in to year 5 in September. I have also included a talking and creative art task linked to the rainforest. You can use the Rousseau PowerPoint and the slideshow of artwork by Class 6 to help you. If you have a brother or sister in year 6, they may recognise their rainforest artwork that they did when they were in Class 4.

Thank you to everyone who is continuing to work hard at home, completing the online lessons or the Maths and English work packs. Thank you for your emails and for sending in your brilliant work - you are amazing! Well done to Alan, Ewa, Hammam, Haseeb, Shareen and Zoya for sending in your wonderful work. You have all earned lots more house points. Take a look at their marvellous maths work, super science and beautiful Eid colouring sheets below.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Maths and Creative Art Learning Project: The Rainforest

Art Work by Class 6 in the style of Henri Rousseau

Monday June 1st 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all had a really good half term and enjoyed the sunshine. I did lots of walking, digging and planting up my allotment and sitting in the garden reading! I have shared some pictures below. I’d love to see what you have been up to. Remember you can send in photos as well as work.

This is the start of our final half term of the school year and it has been a very strange one. Miss Irwin, Mrs Loft and I really miss school and our class and want to see you all so much but at the moment we will be continuing to set work on our Class page for you to do at home.

As Miss Irwin and I will be going into school and working on the phased reopening, we will work our Class page slightly differently. I will put Literacy work on here on Mondays and Wednesdays. Miss Irwin will set her maths and science work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will not be posting on a Friday but I will put the House Token Tracker on our page every Monday.

You will see that for Literacy I have created lessons. One to be done each day and then on Fridays you can complete any tasks you don’t finish in the week. Make sure you do the lessons in order and don’t skip ahead. All the resources are with each lesson and you can send me your work each day. I hope you enjoy them! Remember to keep reading books for pleasure and try to watch Newsround to see what is happening in the world.

Finally thank you to Eiliyah for a lovely lockdown poem, Haseeb for all your hard work and great picture and Shareen for an amazing amount of work and beautiful photo of a butterfly. You have all earned House points – well done.

Have a great Monday,

Stay safe and keep learning!

A Rainbow from Zoya to Class 4! 1

Friday 22nd May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

If we were at school today, this would be our last day before the half term holiday. For many of you, you will be starting the break by celebrating Eid this weekend – I hope you enjoy the celebrations with your families and friends. Although I imagine many will have to be virtual get togethers.

Happy Eid to all those celebrating this weekend.

It has been the strangest half term of my teaching career and probably the weirdest half term for all you too. I miss school and our class so very much. Thank you for all your hard work this half term and the emails you have sent with all the amazing pictures of you and your wonderful work. You have kept me and Miss Irwin smiling and we are so proud of you. A huge thank you as well to all the parents and carers who have been busy home schooling you during the lockdown – they are all brilliant and deserve a good half term break.

As it is half term Miss Irwin and I won’t be setting any work but you can always email us for a ‘chat’ or to send in more work or photos of what you get up to over the holiday and we will put them on the website at the start of the new half term.

Thank you to Horia for your great grammar and well done to Haseeb for more super SPaG work and a lovely Eid card. A big well done to Ewa for all your super spelling work. More House tokens for you three – well done. Check out this half term’s totals below!

Check out all of Zoya's amazing work too. She has been incredibly busy doing lots of English but still managed to create the beautiful rainbow picture, at the top of the page, for her friends. As I received her work after I had done the House points totals her tokens will go into next half term's.

After the half term break, school will be beginning the process of reopening to some children. We will be continuing to set work on our Class page but it will be slightly different as Miss Irwin and I will be working from school and home. We will post full details of this on Monday 1st June.

Have a wonderful and safe half term.

Take care and keep smiling,

U P d A T E  3

Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

WELL DONE to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. We have managed to maintain our fourth position on the leader board but our average speed has decreased to 3.44 seconds – oh dear! Thank you to all the children who are continuing to practise their times tables and play on TT Rockstars. Do you think we can improve our average studio speed again? Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message to see how well Bentinck is doing.

As you know I set a new class challenge last week to see which class in KS2 could increase their average percentage of active users the most.  Sadly this week there are no winners as each class either had the same number of active users or less.sad Oh dear, what happened? surprise Is it because you are ready for a half term break and didn’t feel as motivated last week?

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 did complete last week’s Rockslam Challenge I set and are also setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Muhammed in class 6, who once again beat my Rockslam score of 61 with his brilliant score of 96. Double house points again Muhammed!!

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars:

Class 3: Momina, Ocean, Adchayan, Agape and Raghd, Nathan and Mharan.

Class 4: Shareen, Zoya, Horia, Sarah, Haseeb, Aya, Ewa and Emily.

Class 5: Alaa, De Fan, Arundhathi, Ithar, Mahira, Geo, Ayokunle, Mariya, and Leighton.

Class 6: Muhammed, Kenneth, Lady, Haleema and Taha.

I would really love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. For the next challenge I will award double house points to the class who increase their average amount of time they use TT Rockstars. As it is half term, you have two weeks to help your class win this challenge.

Please try and go on TT Rockstars at least 2 or 3 times a week or even everyday if you can. This would increase your speed, your stats, your class stats and stats for the whole school. I will set everyone in KS2 a new Rockslam Challenge – if you beat my score you will also receive double house points.

Come on everyone, I know you can be super speedy at your times tables. The more you use TT Rockstars, the quicker you will get, your class speed will improve and our school speed. I will post an update on your class page in two weeks time, Friday 5th June to inform you of our school progress and class stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

If you don’t have your TT Rockstar username or password or have forgotten it, you can email your class teacher or me at melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep smiling, keep learning your tables and be a ROCKSTAR!!

This week in Class 4 King got 6, Malala scored 12, Greta managed to get 16 and well done to Farah for scoring 21 points! The Token Tracker below shows Class 4's totals for Summer Term 1. Mrs Holt will be gathering all the totals from across the school and counting up the House totals so check her page today to find out who is in the lead!

Good Morning Class 4!

It looks like it is going to be another beautiful day. Yesterday was such a gorgeous day, very sunny and hot. I went for a long walk in the evening when it was a little cooler and less busy. I took lots of photos of the ducks on the lake in the park for you to see. I know some of you have been on some walks to the park too. Zoya also went for a long walk around the park with her family and she walked around a lake too. She saw ducks and rabbits on her walk.  I hope you can go out for a walk and enjoy the sunshine. Don’t forget to wear a sun hat and put sun cream on too.

I am astounded at how incredibly hard you are all working. Miss Chambers and I are very proud of you all and love receiving your messages, your work and photos. Many of you are continuing to complete your work packs or complete the work we set on our class page each week. You are AMAZING! Thank you so much, it makes Miss Chambers and I so happy.

Thank you Haseeb for more marvellous maths work and your super science work. Hammam has completed lots of maths work from his new work pack and Kovan has been competing some tricky maths questions. Horia has been busy completing the new online maths problem solving lessons. Well done, you have all received lots of house points.

As many of you probably know it is Eid this weekend. Mrs Fredericks has been busy making lots of beautiful Eid cards, which you can take a look at below. You could have a go at designing and making your own Eid card and send it to me or Miss Chambers to put on our class page. I have put an Eid card template on our page to help you as well as Eid colouring sheets.

Keep working hard Class 4. Keep reading, smiling, singing and learning your times tables. Don’t forget to try and go on TT Rockstars, it would be brilliant if our class won this week’s TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge.

Remember to have some time to relax and have fun with your family and enjoy the sunshine.

Keep smiling and stay safe and well.

Good morning Class 4!

It is the middle of our 'school' week already and today is going to be very sunny. I hope you manage to get some time outside to enjoy it. Remember to wear a hat, sunglasses and suntan lotion if you do and make sure you drink lots of water.

As we have been looking at poetry this week I thought it would be nice to do some singing - luckily you won't have to hear me!! Below I have put one of my favourite, uplifting songs and if you look at the lyrics it looks like a poem. Can you identify the 'Secret Strings'? There is also the backing tracking track so you can sing along. Singing makes us feel happy and so is good for our mental health. This song is all about things getting better and looking forward to them. I hope you enjoy singing it. Please feel free to make a video and send it in. We have some great singers in our class and it would be lovely to hear you.

As always you are continuing to send in your amazing work which really helps me and Miss Irwin to stay happy! It was lovely to get some great museum work from Alan - thank you and please keep sending in your work. If you are finding poem writing tricky, have a look at Aya's for inspiration. She has also produced some fantastic artwork. Ewa has been incredibly busy - check out her fantastic English work and well done to Haseeb for his super SPaG work. They have all earned more House tokens - well done to you all.

It would be lovely to see some more poetry on our page and even some singers - double House points for anyone who sends in a poetry performance or singing video.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and enjoy the sunshine safely.

Take care, stay safe and keep smiling!

Amazing Art, Super SPaG and Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 19th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your families are all managing during lockdown, staying safe and keeping well. This week looks like it is going to be a very warm and sunny week. I hope you can go out for a walk to enjoy the sunshine and get some exercise this week. I am going to go for lots of walks this week around my local park with Oliva and Isaac.

I am amazed at how incredibly hard you all working at home. Thank you for your emails and for sending in your brilliant work. Well done to Alan, Ewa, Haseeb, Horia, Kovan, Shareen and Zoya, you have all earned lots more house points. Well done to all the children for playing on TT Rockstars and completing my ‘TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge’. You have helped to keep our school in fourth place on the leader board. I wonder if class 4 can play even more games on TT Rockstars and win the challenge I set last Friday.

Miss Chambers and I also appreciate it is difficult for some children and families to access work online. We know lots of you are busy completing the new English and Maths work packs we delivered to your homes as well as taking part in a range of brilliant activities with your family. A huge thank you to everyone for all their hard work and to the parents for continuing to support your children with their learning. You are all doing a fantastic job!!!

As it is National Mental Health Awareness week I have linked this week’s learning project tasks to the theme of ‘Kindness’ heart as well as setting you some science work.  This week’s online maths lessons are from a different website and involve lots of problem solving. I hope you enjoy them.

Keep sharing your work and sending us messages, it makes Miss Chambers and I smile lots. Remember if you have any questions you can email us too.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Learning Project - Maths, Science and Creative Tasks - Week 7.

Monday 18th May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope everyone is safe and well and managed to enjoy the sunshine this weekend. I have done a lot of walking and lots of sitting in the garden too!

This is the 5th week of this half term and if we were at school we would be breaking up on Friday for the half term holiday. It is still so strange not to be in our classroom learning together. I miss everyone so much and think about everyone in the class a lot. This week is National Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is kindness. It is really important that we look after our mental health as well as our physical. Everyone will have gone through different emotions over the lockdown and we will all continue to do so. When we are apart from friends and family it can feel lonely and make us sad so it really important to talk to the people at home and share how you're feeling. Miss Irwin and I love receiving your work but we also just like hearing from you so if you want to message us we will always reply and have a 'chat'. Check out the link below for a lovely short film and stories of kindness. heart

For this week's Learning Project I thought it would be good to reflect on lockdown, our experiences during it and to create poems about this time. I have written a couple myself which came from how I've been feeling. You can read them below. I have also attached a couple of great examples written by children. There are also links to the Poetry Archive and to Michael Rosen's You Tube channel. Remember when you read a poem read it a few times and have a go at reading it aloud. Think about what it means to you and if it reminds you of anything. Then try and identify the 'Secret Strings' - these might by the rhythm, rhymes, alliteration, repetition, imagery, line length... Then, use all that you have read to help you to create your own poems. All the guidance and instructions are on the Learning Project sheet. There is also a Bitesize lesson on Metaphors and Similes. I can't wait to read your poems. If you're feeling brave you can complete this week's challenge and video yourself performing your poem. Double House tokens for those who manage the challenge!

As well as your schoolwork it's really important to try and get some exercise and to relax and do some things that you really enjoy. I have loved seeing the pictures of you baking and that's a really good thing to do during the lockdown.

Finally thank you to Ali for more of your great art, Eiliyah for your writing about your favourite childhood toy, Kovan for some super seaside questions and Zoya for a great postcard and fabulous 'exhibition'. They have all earned House tokens - well done.

I hope you all have a great Monday.

Take care, stay safe and keep smiling,

Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

WELL DONE to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. We have improved our average studio score by 0.08 of a second. Our average studio score is now 3.39 seconds per question which is absolutely AMAZING!! Thank you to all the children who are continuing to practise their times tables and play on TT Rockstars. Do you think we can improve our average studio speed and progress further? Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message to see how well Bentinck is doing.

As you know I set a new class challenge last week to see which class in KS2 could increase their class average speed the most. Although class 6 have the fastest and brilliant average speed of 2.14 seconds, their score actually decreased by 0.01 second. Oh dear year 6! Class 4 increased their speed by 0.11 of a second, class 5 by 0.35 of a second but the WINNERS this week are CLASS 3 who increased their average speed by 0.44 of a second. CONGRATULATIONS CLASS 3 – DOUBLE HOUSE POINTS!!!

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 have completed last week’s Rockslam Challenge I set and are setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Muhammed in class 6 who beat my Rockslam score of 71 with his brilliant score of 95. Double house points again Muhammed!!

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars:

Class 3 – Double Points: Shams, Mohamed, Abdurraham, Momina, Ocean, Adchayan, Agape and Raghd.

Class 5: Kyei, Alaa, Abeer, De Fan, Arundhathi, Justine, Ithar, Mahira, Raees, Geo, Ayokunle, Mariya, Leighton and Abdullah.

Class 6: Shazaly, Rehan, Muhammed, Kenneth, Mohamed and Issa.

I would love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. Next week I will award double house points to the class who increase their average percentage of active users the most.

I will post an update on your class page next Friday informing you of our school progress and class stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

Good Morning Class 4!

It looks like it is going to be a sunny day and hopefully it will start to warm up again soon. I hope you are able to go out for a walk with your family and enjoy being outside today. I am going to go for a walk with Olivia and Isaac later today once they have finished their school work. They are really missing seeing their friends at school as I am sure you are. I hope you and your family are keeping safe and well. I miss you all lots.

Wednesday 13th May

Good morning Class 4!

I can't believe it is Wednesday already and 8 weeks since we were all in the classroom together. I am so proud of how well everyone is doing, whether you are doing the work packs Miss Irwin and I delivered last week or keeping up with the tasks we set on here. It is really important to try and do some school work every day.

As well as your work, it is really important to take time to relax, play and have fun. It can be really hard not seeing our friends and I am missing you and all my friends, as I am sure you all are so, here’s a picture. I hope it makes you smile.Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!”

Class 4 Pirates!

Class 4 Pirates! 1

As it’s really important to relax, as well as do our work, there is a link below to a great nature game called The Earth Squad where you can play and learn at the same time!

As part of your reading this week have a look at National Geographic Kids. It's full of information about animals, geography and science. Don't forget this week's Literacy Challenge:

Create a new, imaginary animal and design an exhibit for it. Design a backdrop of its habitat and write an explanation for it for the display – you can be really creative! Check out Ewa's example below for some inspiration.

I have been overwhelmed this week by such wonderful work which you can see below. Thank you to Ewa for an amazing amount of work, lovely to hear from Hijran and Hammam – please keep sending in your work, well done to Haseeb for more excellent work, thank you Kovan for supper spellings and creative writing and very well done to Zoya for some super writing and model making for the Toy Project. It is great to see some of you are completing the spelling and grammar exercises as these are really important skills to practise whilst we are apart. Check out another budding Class 4 chef below who has been baking bread! Remember you can find recipes on Mrs Fredericks’ page. It is great to receive pictures of you cooking as well as your work.

Have a great Wednesday and please keep sending in your wonderful work – it ALWAYS makes me and Miss Irwin very happy!

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Class 4's Budding Baker!

Tuesday 12th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you are all staying safe and keeping well. We are now in week 4 of the summer term. It still feels very strange to be setting you work from my computer at home – it really isn’t the same as teaching you face to face in our bright and wonderful classroom.

This week’s learning project is linked to the tasks Miss Chambers set yesterday on the virtual trip to the National History Museum in Washington. Miss Chambers and I would love to have taken all of class 4 on a real trip somewhere, but unfortunately, we can’t do that now as we all have to still stay at home.

I have also included a science lesson about Classification and Scientists discovering new species in this week’s learning project. You will need to watch the PowerPoint below and the activity sheets can also be accessed below. The task is explained in the ‘Lets Wonder’ section of the learning project sheet. I have set five more online maths lessons. This week’s lessons cover multiplication and division of 2 and 3 digit numbers as well as another weekly maths challenge which involves some baking. It would be lovely to see some photos or a video of anyone who does any baking at home. As always, there are times tables tasks to try and I have included daily mental maths challenges. All the work and links can be found in the maths and creative learning project document at the end of this message.

I hope your saw the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge Update last week. If you didn’t, scroll down the page to the message on Thursday 7th May. The children in class 5 had the most children playing on TT Rockstars so they received double house points each and 2 children from class 6 also received double house points as they beat my score on the Rockslam Challenge. Well done Ewa, Ali, Shareen, Kacper, Aroosh, Komal, Zoya, Haseeb, Eiliyah and Horia for playing on TT Rockstars last week – you all earned a house point. Keep playing on TT Rockstars, if you help your class to increase their average class speed the most in KS2, then you will receive double house points.

Thank you to all the children who are continuing to send their work to me and Miss Chambers – it really does make us smile J  Thank you Aya and Sarah for more maths work and it was lovely to hear from Hammam for the first time and see the work he has completed. You will all receive house points – well done!!! Take a look at their work below.

Keep learning, smiling and having fun Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Marvellous Maths

Monday 11th May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

How was your long weekend? I hope you all managed to relax and have some fun with your families. Did you see any of the VE Day celebrations on Friday? It was a beautiful day and lots of streets had distanced street parties. You find out how it was celebrated in this special Newsround report: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52599381

This week, for our Learning Project I thought we'd go on a 'school trip' to... Washington! Miss Irwin and I were planning a trip (not to Washington!) for the summer term but because of our current situation I thought we'd take a virtual trip to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. All you need to do is follow the link below and the click on 'Current Exhibits', you will then be able to explore the museum - it works on laptops, tablets and phones and really feels like you're there. You can explore the Bone Hall, see a life-size model of a Blue Whale, explore the Amazon Rain Forest and even look at T-Rex bones and the last dinosaurs in America. There is a map in the top right hand corner and there are 3 floors to explore. I hope you enjoy it!

All your work for Literacy this week is connected to your Museum 'trip' and I can't wait to see it.

Thank you to Aya, Ewa and Haseeb for sending in more of their brilliant work - check out Aya's brilliant toy design and prototype, Ewa's writing and another of her videos showing her latest creation (inspired by Mrs Deegan I think) and some great work from Haseeb including a letter to himself during the Corona Virus lockdown. They have all earned more House tokens. Check out the House Token Tracker below to see how everyone did last week.

Please keep sending your work in as it really keeps your teachers smiling and it's a great way to earn House tokens!

As well as your school work this week, if you haven't checked them out yet have a look at Mrs Deegan's fabulous crafting page and Mrs Frederick's Cookery page they're both full of ideas and videos of things you can do whilst you're at home.

I hope you all have a great day and enjoy our 'trip'!

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

A huge thank you to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. Our average studio score is still 3.47 seconds per question and Sneinton St Stephen’s Primary School have now caught up. Although we are now listed as 5th on the leader board, both schools have the same score so we are really joint 4th. I think with lots of extra practise we can improve our studio speed and slowly progress further up the leader board. Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message.

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 have completed the Rockslam Challenge I set and are setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Dawud and Muhammed in class 6 who both beat my Rockslam score of 62. Dawud scored 80 and Muhammed scored 95. Double house points each - AMAZING!

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars, some of you have completed my Rockslam Challenge or played in the Soundcheck or other areas of TT Rockstars and I know that Class 5 have completed Mr Burton’s Rockslam Challenges too.

Class 3 are new to TT Rockstars and are doing an amazing job. The following children have been busy on TT Rockstars and will earn a house point: Shams, Mohamed, Maliha, Awais, Abdurraham, Momina, Nathan, Ocean, Adchayan and Eseoghene.

The following children in Class 4 will receive house points for taking part in the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge; Ewa, Ali, Shareen, Kacper, Aroosh, Komal, Zoya, Haseeb, Eiliyah and Horia. Well Done!!

Well done to the following children in Class 5 for playing on TT Rockstars; Alaa, Abeer, De Fan, Arundhathi, Anaya, Justine, Ithar, Mahira, Arooj, Raees, Geo, Ayokunle, Ethan, Mariya, Brayden and Abdullah. This week I am awarding you double house points each as Class 5 have 16 children using TT Rockstars. CONGRATULATIONS CLASS 5!!!

Class 6 have also been busy playing on TT Rockstars. House points for the following children; Shazaly, Owen, Jamar, Dawud, Rehan, Shayal, Lady and Muhammed. Well Done!!

I would love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. I have kept a log of stats for each class; your class average speed, how accurate your class is and the percentage of active users. Next week I will award double house points to the class who increase their class average speed the most.

I will post an update on your class page next Thursday informing you of our school progress and stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

If you don’t have your TT Rockstar username or password or have forgotten it, you can email your class teacher or me at melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep smiling, keep learning your tables and be a ROCKSTAR!!

Thursday 7th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful, warm and sunny Thursday. I hope you are able to go out for a walk with your family and enjoy being outside today. As many of you will know, you received a surprise visit from me and Miss Chambers yesterday, delivering packs to those of you who are unable to complete the work online or print off the sheets. It was lovely to see you and your family. Miss Chambers and I really are missing you and it brightened up our day seeing your gorgeous smiles.  smiley

Thank you to all the children who are continuing to send emails, work, photos and videos of what you are doing to me and Miss Chambers – it’s another thing that helps us during Lockdown and brings a smile to our face. smiley We are amazed at how creative and talented lots of the children in class 4 are. Well done!!! Miss Chambers and I are very proud of you. You can also take a look at Mrs Deegan's or Mrs Fredericks's class pages for new creative and baking activities to try out.

Thank you Haseeb and Zoya for completing the online maths work and well done Haseeb for completing the maths challenge too – there were some tricky questions. Take a look at their work below.

We are not going to set any new tasks for this week, there are lots of maths and literacy activities to do, as well as the creative toy and game making activities you can have a go at or the science task we set on Monday and Tuesday. Remember if you are in Miss Hodgson's English group she has her own page on the website with lots of activities for you to have a go at. I know lots of you have been busy on TT Rockstars and I am going to put a TT Rockstars update on our page later today.

Tomorrow is a special bank holiday. It is the 75th anniversary of VE Day – Victory in Europe, which celebrates the end of World War 2. You can find out all about it on Newsround. Due to the coronavirus outbreak it means many people are commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day within their own homes as all public gatherings that were due to take place to celebrate have been cancelled.

There are still some events that will go ahead that you will be able to watch on the BBC tomorrow. As it is a special bank holiday, lots of people will have the day off work and you do not need to do any school work!! Miss Chambers and I will not be updating our class page tomorrow as we are going to enjoy the bank holiday too and celebrate with our families. Miss Chambers will update our class house points tracker and will add any other work she has received to our class page on Monday.

I hope you all have a safe and happy bank holiday weekend.

Keep smiling.

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope that everyone is well and staying safe. The sun seems to be shining a little more so hopefully we will all be able to get outside for some exercise.

Yesterday, lots of the teachers were in school busy making packs for children who can’t get on the website. It was lovely to see everyone but of course we had to stay 2 metres apart and make sure we kept washing our hands. Everyone I spoke to said the same thing though – “We really miss the children!” And we really do – school is not the same without you all but we have to keep doing what we’re doing and one day we will all be back together – I can’t wait.

Lots of children in the class continue to keep making me smile (and earning House tokens) by sending in their wonderful work. Please keep sending it in as it always makes Miss Irwin and I so happy and very proud.

Well done to Aroosh for your beautiful picture. Thank you to Zoya for your brilliant Time Capsule work. Well done to Haseeb for more Time Capsule work, great Favourite Toy writing and pictures and your brilliant Lego Maze design and prototype. Finally thank you and a huge well done to Ewa for more videos and pictures of your work. Ewa has designed and made a brilliant toy – check it out below.

As there are lots and lots of tasks this week for your Literacy learning project, I would just like you to make sure that as well as the reading and writing activities, you have a go at the creative task and try and design a new toy.

Have a great Wednesday, stay safe and keep learning!

Good Morning Class 4!

I can’t believe it is week 3 of the summer term. It seems such a long time since we were in school learning together in our classroom. I miss seeing you every day, teaching you, helping you and talking to you about the things you like to do or any worries you have. I hope you and your family are staying safe and well. I continue to enjoy receiving your emails and finding out what you are doing at home. As well as learning, I hope you are able to go out for a walk each day with your family and relax and have some time to talk and play games too.

This week’s learning project is linked to the tasks Miss Chambers set yesterday on Toys. I hope you find the creative and talking activities fun and interesting. I have included a science lesson you might find interesting about States of Matter, which we learned about in the Autumn term. I have set five more online maths lessons. The lessons will finish the decimals topic and also include a couple of lessons on money as well as another weekly maths challenge. As always, there are times tables tasks to try and I have included daily mental maths challenges. All the work and links can be found in the maths and creative learning project document at the end of this message. I hope your saw the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge I set for all the children in KS2 last week. If you didn’t, scroll down the page to the message on Thursday 30th April.

Maths and Creative Learning Project - Toys - Week 5

Monday 4th May 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all had a good weekend and managed to spend some time relaxing with your families. I am doing a lot of video messaging with my family and friends and did a quiz on Saturday with family and friends in Leicestershire, Preston, Liverpool, Bath, Portugal, Turkey and New Zealand!! How are you keeping in touch with your friends and family? Below you can see a video from Ewa of her card to Class 4 - it's a great way to stay in touch with the class.

This week's Literacy Learning Project is all about toys. I am sure that more than ever having toys to play with at home is really important and helps you to pass the time. Just like every week, there are the usual spelling activities and some reading ones too which includes reading a Newspaper - see the attachment below. Linked to the newspaper, there are lots of different activities such as describing and drawing your favourite toy and designing and making a brand new toy. Don't worry if you can't print sheets off just use the ideas and use paper to write and draw your work on. Remember parents and carers can collect stationery from school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9 and 11am.

One of the learning ideas this week is to ask an older member of your family about the toys they played with. I have put some pictures of some of my favourite toys from childhood so you can see what toys were like in the 70s and 80s!

Finally, thank you to the children who continue to send in their work - it always makes me smile and I know Miss Irwin feels the same. Thank you to: Horia for some more super up-levelled sentences, Ali for some super artwork, Ewa for your video and Haseeb for some great Time Capsule work and a brilliant and very creative seahorse picture - have a look at what he recycled and used for the picture. They have all earned House tokens and helped to make our Class page even better.

I hope you all have a great day, manage to get some school work done, exercise, eat something tasty and good for you and take time out to play with some of your toys or have a game with someone at home.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Welcome to May! It seems quite unbelievable that we spent the whole of April apart but I am so proud of how hard you are working. It was wonderful to speak to some of you on Wednesday - sorry if it was a bit early! I am absolutely thrilled with all the work I am able to share on here today especially for those children who have sent work in for the first time. Well done to Aroosh, Ewa, Haseeb, Horia, Shareen and Zoya. You can check out all their amazing work below. Have a look at Aroosh and Shareen's creative cards. Zoya has made another fantastic information leaflet about her local area and there is even a letter to Class 4 from Shareen. A wonderful idea to stay in touch with your friends. Please have a go at writing a letter to the class, email it to me and I can share it with everyone on our page. Shareen has also done a great review of Fing by David Walliams. Please keep having a go at the tasks Miss Irwin and I set you each week - check out Haseeb and Ewa's brilliant Time Capsule work. Ewa has also made 2 videos of her wonderful work. Have a look at Horia's brilliant Beowulf picture too. Also check out Class 4's budding Chef making a yummy Cornflake tart! All these children have earned more House tokens and I will put this week's Token Tracker up later today.

Did you see all the celebrations for Captain Tom Moore's 100th birthday? It was very special. There is a link to Newsround here where you can even do a quiz to test your knowledge of him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52471924

Remember that as well as your schoolwork it is really important to take time out to relax and do something you really enjoy. As well as sending in your work, you can send any art or things you make - they will really brighten up our page. Keep doing some exercise each day as well. I hope you all have a great day and wonderful weekend.

Yesterday Miss Chambers managed to give some of you a call and I know she really enjoyed speaking to you and finding out how you have been getting on at home during the past few weeks.

Thank you to everyone for emailing me and Miss Chambers and for sending us your brilliant work - we really do enjoy hearing from you and seeing your work. Thank you Ewa for you maths work and fantastic rocket - more house points for Greta. Haseeb has been busy completing more maths work - house points for Farah. Keep working hard class 4, you can access the English tasks for reading and spelling if you scroll down the page to the message on Monday and there is also the Covid 19 Time Capsule activity you can complete. The maths and creative activities which link to the Time Capsule activity can be found in Tuesday's message. Remember to keep reading and practising your times tables too. Reading is a good way to relax and take your mind off things.

I am setting all of the children in KS2 a TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge. I will add this to our class page today. Well done to Zoya, Komal and Ewa who have competed the Rockslam and Soundcheck tasks this week - you will all receive house points.

Remember you must all still follow the lockdown guidelines from the Government to keep you and your family safe. It is important to keep exercising, you can go out for a daily walk with your family and maybe do some PE with Joe Wicks. Try to relax and have some fun times with your family too.

Take care Class 4.

Wonderful Work!

M I S S   I R W I N ‘ S    L o c k d o w n     c h a l l e n g e

 Hello Everyone!

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

You know how much I love maths and how I always go on about learning and practising your times tables, so during Lockdown I am setting all the children in KS2 who have access to TT Rockstars, a LOCKDOWN CHALLENGE!!

I know lots of you are using TT Rockstars and are amazingly fast. Some children are practising every day, some once a week but there are some children who have not been on TT Rockstars for quite a while. Yes, I can see when you have accessed TT Rockstars, your scores, speed and stats!

As well as seeing your individual stats, I can also see your class stats and our whole school stats. Last week our school was 3rd on the TT Rockstars leader board for schools in our area – AMAZING! However, over the weeks during Lockdown other schools have been catching up and we are now 4th OH NO!!

I would love to see our school move back in to 3rd place or even further up the TT Rockstars leader board.  Please try and go on TT Rockstars at least 2 or 3 times a week or even everyday if you can. This would increase your speed, your stats, your class stats and stats for the whole school. I will set everyone in KS2 a weekly Rockslam Challenge – see if you can beat my score or your teacher’s score. I know some of you from Class 4, 5 and 6 have already completed my Rockslam Challenges and children in Class 5 are completing Mr Burton’s Rockslam Challenges. I will award house points for children who complete Rockslam Challenges I set and I will also award house points to children who are regularly using TT Rockstars.

Come on everyone, I know you can be super speedy at your times tables. The more you use TT Rockstars, the quicker you will get and our school speed will improve. I will post a weekly message on your class page informing you of our school progress and stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

If you don’t have your TT Rockstar username or password or have forgotten it, you can email your class teacher or me at melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep smiling, keep learning your tables and be a ROCKSTAR!!

Miss Irwin

Wednesday 29th April

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope that you and all your families are keeping well and staying safe. I am sure, like me, you are missing the sunshine but if you usually take your exercise outside, try some keep fit inside. Joe Wicks is still on every day or you could make up your own routine - I'd love to see some pictures or even a video that I can share with everyone on here!

If you enjoy taking photos or making a video, it would make a wonderful part of your time capsule. I have put the teachers' video below to inspire you or have a look on Class 6's page as some children have taken photos or posted videos on there.

While we're apart

A film of messages from the staff at our school to the children.

More Wonderful Work!

Thank you to the children who are continuing to send in their work to Miss Irwin and me. We love receiving it and finding out how you're getting on. You'll earn House tokens too! Check our Class page on Mondays and Tuesdays when we set our main tasks and keep checking all week for extra ones!

Thank you to Alan and Ewa for more letters thanking our amazing NHS staff - I have passed them to Mrs Burton who is going to send them to the hospital. Thank you as well to Alan for a letter for the workers at Asda - it's great to hear from you Alan, please keep sending us your work.

Thanks to Eiliyah for great work on Jamie Garcia and Captain Tom Moore. A huge thank you to Haseeb who is continuing to work really hard. Check out his writing about his local area and his Time Capsule work - I hope it inspires you to send some in.

All those children have earned even more House tokens. Check the page on Friday for this week's total!

Terrific Time Capsule Work by Haseeb

And finally...

Remember tomorrow is Captain Tom Moore's 100th birthday! I am going to send all the wonderful cards you have sent in  to him today. If you still want to send me one, I will put it on our Class page. If you have social media at home you can put it on with #makeacardfortom. There is lots of information on how to send him a card if you Google it. If you want to send a photo or video message please do and I will put it on here. Maybe you could sing Happy Birthday?

Have a great Wednesday Class 4. Try and complete some of your time capsule and send it to me or some more information about your local area.

Tuesday 28th April

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I am missing school, all my friends and the children at Bentinck, especially teaching you all. It feels very strange to be setting work and sending you messages from home. I really enjoy receiving your emails, reading your messages and seeing your amazing work.

Thank you Zoya and Haseeb for you messages and more brilliant maths work on decimals - you have earned lots of house points for Greta and Farah. Well done! Zoya has also been busy researching her local area and created her dream park. It was lovely to hear from Alan for the first time and read his thank you letters to NHS workers and supermarket workers. Alan has also been busy completing his maths work and researching his local area - well done Alan, you have earned lots of house points for King.

This week's Learning Project tasks link to the work Miss Chambers set, creating a Covid 19 Time Capsule. The creative and talking tasks are linked to Life in Lockdown and will help you complete the Time Capsule activities. There is also a link to a video from Tim Peake the astronaut, that you might find interesting. I have set five more online maths lessons for the week to learn about decimals. Lesson 5 is a little bit different this week as it is a maths challenge and you can do this at any time during the week. As always, there are times tables tasks to try and a new Rockslam challenge on TT Rockstars. Please keep practising your times tables - it is very important. Well done Zoya, Haseeb and Eiliyah for completing last week's TT Rockstars tasks. You have earned even more house points for Greta, Farrah and King!

Miss Chambers and I look forward to seeing your work and would love to hear from you all. If you have made a card for Captain Tom Moore, please send this to Miss Chambers today. You can also still send us thank you letters for key workers. Keep working hard and keep in touch via email. I know it must be difficult being at home everyday and trying to complete schoolwork - you are doing so well and it is important for us all to still stay at home and keep ourselves and everybody safe. You will have good days and some days you will find it difficult - it is perfectly normal to feel like this. Remember to take some time during the day to relax, exercise and have some fun.

Keep smiling Class 4.

Stay safe and well.

Take care.

Maths and Creative Learning Project - Life in Lockdown - Week 4: 27:04:20

Monday 27th April

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you all had a good weekend and managed to enjoy the sunshine. It still feels very strange not to be talking to you and seeing you in our classroom - I miss school and all of you very much. I hope you enjoyed the video the teachers made for you. I loved seeing everyone.

This week's Literacy Learning Project is a bit different. I have called it Life in Lockdown. Below there is a page of reading and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) activities. There is a great link to a website with books for you to read online for free. They include Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Judy Moody. There is also a great BBC Bitesize lesson all about adverbs.

For the writing activities this week I have given you a Covid 19 Time Capsule. We are all living through something that has never before happened and I thought it would be great to make a record of this time. In the capsule there are lots of different activities including a fact file about you, space to explain how you're feeling, how you are staying connected and even a page where you can write a letter to yourself. In the future you can go back and read all about this strange time. If you can't print it off, just use the ideas and create your own time capsule. Remember if you need stationery parents or carers can come and collect some from school. See the message at the top if the page for details.

Please keep sending your work to me and Miss Irwin - we love seeing how you're getting on and having a 'chat' with you via email.

Thank you to Aya, Haseeb and Zoya for more amazing work and well done for earning even more House tokens. Have a look below at their wonderful work.

Remember that it is Captain Tom Moore's 100th birthday on Thursday so you still have time to make him a card and I will send them to him. Please send them to me today or tomorrow. Also if you still have a letter for any key workers send them to me and Mrs Burton is going to collect them all and send them to the relevant people.

Finally a really big well done to everyone for getting on and staying safe during these difficult times. I am sure that, just like me you have had good days and some not so good days. As well as my schoolwork I try and do something everyday that I really enjoy - I have done some art, lots of cooking, walked, worked on my allotment (digging is great exercise!), spent time playing with my cats and read...lots! Remember that as well as your schoolwork it is really important to get some exercise and take time out to relax and do the things you really enjoy. If you like art and craft check out Mrs Deegan's page - there are great step by step guides to making things or check out Mrs Frederick's recipe ideas on her page.

Have a great Monday, stay safe and keep smiling,

Wonderful Work!

Friday 24th March

Good morning Class 4 and happy Friday!

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. All the staff really miss you and so we have made a video for you.

A huge thank you to Aya, Ali, Haseeb and Sarah who are continuing to send in amazing work and earn even more House points. As soon as I have talked to Miss Irwin, I will put this week's totals up on our House Token Tracker - so keep checking this page. Please keep sending in your work - Miss Irwin and I love receiving your emails and looking at the work you're doing.

Remember that it is Captain Tom's birthday on 30th April (next Thursday) so please make him a card and send it to us so we can send it to him. Have a look at Ali's below or Haseeb's from earlier in the week for some inspiration.

Also if you want to thank any groups of key workers, write them a letter and I will try and get it to them. Have a look at Sarah's letter below and Aya's information about the NHS to inspire you.

If you're not sure how to fill in the new Reading Diary I sent out, have a look at Haseeb's below. He has completed it brilliantly. Well done Haseeb for doing so much reading and recording it so well.

Have a great Friday and weekend whatever you and your family are doing.

Thursday 23rd April

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you are all keeping well, staying safe and able to go for a daily walk and enjoy the sunshine. A huge thank you to Sarah and Zoya for sending lots of magnificent maths work. Zoya also created some interesting animals - combining two different animals. Well done - you have both earned lots and lots of house points for Greta. Take a look at their wonderful work below.

You have lots of Maths, English and creative tasks to complete that Miss Chambers and I set earlier in the week as well as tasks set yesterday related to Earth Day. If you would like to do a science activity, you could have a look at the science lesson on light and dark on the BBC Bitesize page - see the link below.

Keep in touch class 4, we love to hear all about the things you are doing and see your fantastic work.

Good morning Class 4 and Happy Earth Day!

Picture 1

I hope you and your families are all keeping well.

Today is Earth Day and this is its 50th anniversary. It was started as a global project to look after our planet. Our environment is so important and we all have a responsibility to take care of it.

Below you'll find a really interesting fact file about a very clever chemist. Read all about her and then do the quiz.

For this week's literacy challenge - designing a building or place for your local area, you might want to think about designing something that is environmentally friendly or perhaps made from recycled materials. I can't wait to see your designs.

Below there are links to the Earth Day site and a great site with lots of activities connected to Earth Day.

Wonderful Work!

Thank you to Haseeb and Sarah for sending in more amazing work. You've both earned more House tokens.

Haseeb has made Captain Tom a brilliant 100th birthday card. Remember Captain Tom Moore will be 100 on April 30th so you still have lots of time to make him a card or picture and send it to me. Scroll down to read all about him.

Read Haseeb's lovely letter thanking the doctors and nurses. Writing a letter is one of your literacy tasks. Choose a group of key workers you would like to thank and write them a letter. All the information is below on Monday's page.

Sarah has been so busy reading lots of books over the Easter holiday - take a look at the Reading Diary she has made. I would love to know what everyone has been reading - please send me an email and let me know or send me any other work you have done. It's wonderful to hear from you and you'll earn House tokens!

I hope you all have a great Earth Day.

Wonderful Work!

Tuesday 21st April

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your family are all well and had a good Easter break. We enjoyed spending time together as a family over the Easter holiday as well as eating lots of chocolate and enjoying the beautiful sunny weather.  I hope you are beginning to adapt to the new routines of being at home with your family and having to learn and complete schoolwork at home - I know it must be difficult and like everyone you must be missing your friends too.

I miss being at school, seeing you and lots of the other children at Bentinck as well as my friends and family. Just like you, we are adapting to the new routines. Olivia and Isaac are older than you, they are at secondary school and have schoolwork to complete each day as well. We try to go on a walk each day around our local area and do some exercise at home as well. Isaac likes to play football in the garden and Olivia likes to do gymnastics or practise her dance. She joined in her first ballet lesson online last weekend and is going to try another class on Friday. She really misses going to dance and gym every week and Isaac misses football training and the weekly matches. Olivia and Isaac have both been helping with jobs around the house, cooking, gardening and tidying their bedrooms.

Like last term, I will continue to set weekly maths tasks and creative and science tasks. Miss Chambers will continue to set your reading, writing and spelling tasks each week. Try to do some schoolwork each day, remember to take some breaks, do some exercise, relax and enjoy time with your family.

The maths lessons focus for this week is fractions and decimals and there is a short video clip explaining each lesson. Thank you Eiliyah for sending your maths work on fractions - a house point for King, well done! Remember it is really important to continue practising your times tables - you can use the songs to help you learn them, write out your times tables, play the games and continue to use TT Rockstars. I will continue to check the TT Rockstars accounts each week and will award house points for completing a Rockslam challenge, completing Soundcheck tasks and going in the other areas of TT Rockstars. There are also some other maths games I have set for you to try on the learning project page below.

The creative tasks I have set are linked to your local area and the writing tasks that Miss Chambers set for this week. I will set you a new science task on Thursday. Thank you Haseeb for sending your brilliant science work on food chains - more house points for Farah - well done!

We would love to hear how you are getting on, your emails and work really do make us smile.

Keep smiling and working hard.

Stay safe and take care.

Maths and Creative Learning Project - Your Local Area - Week 3: 20.04.20

Haseeb's Super Science Work

Monday 20th April 2020

Good morning Class 4!

Welcome to the start of our Summer Term. It feels very strange to still be at home but it is really important we all continue to do this to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus.

I really miss school and our class. I always get excited on the first day back to see you all and find out what you've been up to. If you can, please email me and let me know how you're doing and send me some of your wonderful work.

I hope that you all managed to have a good time during the holidays and were able to enjoy the sunshine. For my daily exercise I have been walking as much as possible and enjoying the sunshine. I hope you are all managing to get some exercise. I would love to see what you are doing to keep fit - if you are able to send a picture or even a video that would be brilliant!

I have been reading lots too and am currently reading a brilliant book that Mrs Burton lent me before the lockdown. It is all about Henry VIII and I am loving it. What have you been reading? I would love to hear all about the books you have been reading over the Easter break.

Thank you to Ewa, Aroosh and Haseeb who all sent me work over the holidays. They have earned more House tokens and you can see their work below.

Remember you can send any of the work you do to Miss Irwin or me. We love receiving your work and finding out what you have been up to. You can email us on:

This Week's Literacy Work

Monday 20th April 2020

Just like last term Miss Irwin and I will set work for you to do during the week. I will set reading, writing and spelling tasks on a Monday and Miss Irwin will set maths on a Tuesday. There will also be science, art and other activities to keep you busy!

Please send us any of the work you do as we love receiving emails and work. You will earn House tokens every time you do and we will always email you back.

This week's Literacy Learning Project is called Our Local Area and is all about where you live. One of the tasks is to think about the key workers in your local area who are continuing to do their jobs to help us all. It might be the hospital staff, Asda workers, delivery drivers, refuse collectors... We would like you to choose one group and write a thank you letter explaining why you want to thank them and what a brilliant job you think they are doing. Class 6 wrote some amazing letters to NHS workers and Mrs Burton sent them to the staff at the QMC who were thrilled. Kenneth, his dad and Mrs Nunez were on Radio Nottingham talking about it! Check out Class 6's page for some inspiration.

You might want to draw pictures or decorate your letters too. If you email them to me I will try and get them to the different workers. I am sure they will be thrilled.

Take care, stay safe and keep learning!

Amazing Captain Tom Moore

Have you seen Captain Tom Moore on the news? He is 99 years old and wanted to raise money for the NHS. He decided to walk 100 laps of his 25 metre garden. He hoped to raise £1000. The total he has actually raised is currently over £26 million. He is an absolute hero. You can find out more about him on the Newsround link below.

It is his 100th birthday on Thursday 30th April and I thought we could make some pictures and cards for him. You can email me your pictures and cards and we will try to get them to him.

Easter Holidays

Thank you for your emails, sharing your brilliant work and amazing activities over the last two weeks. Thank you also to all the parents for taking the time and supporting your children with their home school learning, we appreciate that this is a new challenge and it can be difficult at times juggling work, looking after younger children and supporting other children in your family with their schoolwork. You have done a fantastic job!

If we were still at school, today would be the last day of the Spring Term and we would be breaking up for the Easter holidays. We will not be setting work over the Easter holiday or updating our class page until after the Easter break on Monday 20th April.

However, as we all still have to stay at home we understand that you might want some fun and creative activities to keep you busy and entertained. Here is a list of activities you might want to try during the Easter holiday:

Reading Challenge: Try to read every day of the holidays. There is a reading record below that you can print or just follow the instructions inside and make your own reading record.

Art – Create a spring picture. Use the link below as inspiration. It shows the work of famous artist David Hockney.

Maths – TT Rockstars: Practise as often as you can and keep trying to move up the leader board and improve your times.

Easter Crafts – Click on the links below for some Easter craft ideas, including Design an Easter egg - send us your designs so we can brighten up our page.

Singing - Practise the school song and video yourself if you can. We'd love to see and hear you!

Keep Activite - Use the Activity Bingo card to keep fit, practise skills and try new activities!

We will still be checking our emails during the Easter holiday so you can keep in touch, tell us what you are doing and share any work or activities you have done.

We will post your work on our class page after the Easter holiday.

We hope you all have a good Easter break and look forward to hearing from you.

Good Morning Class 4!

I hope you and your family are keeping safe and staying well. Thank you for your emails and the amazing work you are sending to me and Miss Chambers. We really enjoy reading your emails and looking at your work. Well done and thank you to all the parents for taking the time and supporting your children with their home school learning. We appreciate that this can be difficult if you are having to juggle work and have younger and/or older children in the family who are also trying to complete schoolwork. A little reading, practising times tables, drawing, trying to exercise, talking to each other, getting your children to help out at home, playing games together and most of all having fun are all just as important. Whatever activities you manage to do is more than enough, just do what works best for you and your family.

You can have a look at some wonderful drawings and writing from Eiliyah, Kovan and Aya below as well as some marvellous maths work from Kovan and Sarah. You have all been very busy and will receive house points for your brilliant work.

I have checked the Class 4 TT Rockstars accounts each day and it is lovely to see lots of you taking part in the soundcheck tasks and trying to improve your score as well as completing the Rockslam challenge I set you this week.

House points for playing and practising the soundcheck task this week go to; Sarah, Zoya, Aroosh, Aya and Komal. smiley

House points for completing the Rockslam challenge this week go to; Horia, Aroosh, Sarah, Komal and Zoya. smiley

A special mention to Ali who has also been practising his times tables this week. He is the first person in class 4 to become a Rock Hero. Well done Ali - that is an amazing achievement - double house points for you! smiley

Keep practising your times tables class 4 and playing TT Rockstars - it is a fun way to earn house points. I have put some times tables songs on our class page today to help you learn your times tables. I know lots of you like singing, so why not have a go at these? You could even video yourself singing one of the times tables songs and send it to me and earn a house point.

There are also lots of other activities that Miss Chambers and I have posted on our class page this week for you to try. You could try the fun drawing task from Miss Chambers - mixing up two animals or some of the writing tasks about animals. There are some super science activities about animals I set earlier in the week or you could try one of the daily maths lessons and send in some of your answers. You could even draw a picture of a rainbow and put it in your window to say thank you to the NHS Heroes or take part in the whole school singing challenge that Mrs Burton and Mrs Tibbitts set.

Remember to try and do some exercise too, you could try the Yoga activity I put on the website. I did the Joe Wicks PE lesson yesterday and my legs are aching a little today. I even did the bunny hops and Spiderman exercises! Tomorrow, Joe's PE lesson is a special Fancy Dress Friday PE lesson. Maybe you could dress up in some funny clothes and take part in his lesson.

Try to read a little each day too. I know lots of you love to read and we would love to hear about the books you have read. You could keep a diary of the books you read and write about each one, just like you do at school. If you don't have anymore books to read at home, Miss Chambers has posted some links on her learning project page so you can access books online. I am reading a children's book called 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' by Onjali Q. Rauf. When I have finished reading it, I will tell you all about it.

Finally, Mrs Fredericks has her own page on the website with some delicious recipes that you may want to try.

Take a look at our class page again tomorrow to find out which house in Class 4 has earned the most house points.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

A message from

Mrs Burton & Mrs Tibbitts

Whole School Singing Challenge!

Hello everyone. Lots of people are using music to help them get through the difficult situation that we are all in at the moment. Have you seen the people in Italy singing to each other from their balconies? Or heard some of the funny rewrites of songs that are being shared on social media? My favourite is a clip of my GP singing ‘Stay at Home’ to the tune of ‘Let it Go’ from Frozen!

We thought it would be lovely if we could all learn a song together, and the song we have chosen is There’s a Power in the Music, which is the special Sing Up Day song for this year. You can sing along with the lyrics video on YouTube by clicking on the link below, and if you’d like your own set of lyrics you can find them below too.

When you’ve learnt the song, if you’re feeling brave (and I know a lot of you are VERY brave when it comes to performing), you could send a video of you singing along with a part or all of the song to your class teacher. This would be a great way to earn some house points for your house! We could then put some of the clips together to make our very own Bentinck music video. So come on Bentinck students, get singing and see if you can spread some smiles!

Mrs Burton and Mrs Tibbitts 😊

Here's a link to the song:

Miss Irwin and I would love to hear you sing! So please, if you're feeling brave, make a video of yourself performing and email it to us. We can put you on the website so everyone can see your performance.

Happy singing!

Wednesday 1st April 2020

Good morning Class 4!

I can't believe it is April already. Has anyone been April Fooled?

Thank you to all the children who are emailing their work - it is great to see how you are getting on and a brilliant way to earn House tokens. Well done to Haseeb for completing your work pack English so well. Thank you Ewa for sharing some of your grammar work and a picture of your cat and Ali for sending me the start of a story about a wizard - I can't wait for the rest of it! Well done to Sarah and Aroosh for completing one of the English tasks and writing an information text about an animal.

If you haven't yet created an animal here are some pictures to inspire you. I took my inspiration from one of the Flat Stanley stories. Why not try and mix up two animals to create your new one and then draw it. It would be great to have some more art on our page. You can then write about that creature.

I hope you are all manging to do some learning as well as exercise and finding time to relax. Please stay in touch and send any English or art work to:

Good morning Class 4!

I hope that you all managed to relax over the weekend and that you and your families are all safe and well.

It was really great to open my emails this morning and find emails, pictures and work from some of you - thank you. All the teachers miss their classes so much and it is really wonderful to see what you are up to so please email me if you can and I can share your work with the rest of the class on here.

Thank you to Ali, Aya, Ewa, Sarah and Zoya for getting in touch and a special thank you and well done for the great work we got from Sarah and Zoya. Remember it's a great way to show your teachers what you're doing and to earn House tokens. Greta are doing really well this week!

This week's Literacy Learning Project is all about animals and as promised I have included a couple of photos of Stan our other cat. He is much bigger than Chinny but a big softy who loves having his tummy tickled! He is a very handsome cat but he knows it so loved having his photo taken! I really look forward to seeing your writing about different animals - there are different tasks this week to help you practise the skills we have learned so far in Class 4.

As well as keeping your minds active, I hope you are managing to exercise too. I am loving joining in the Joe Wicks PE lessons and hope you are too.

Did you join in with the clapping for the NHS last night? It was amazing. There is a video below showing all the cheering and clapping across the country.

Below I have put this week's House tokens chart. You can earn House tokens whilst you are at home by emailing me or Miss Irwin and sharing your work - we'd love to see how you are getting on. Please email again and let me know how you're getting on.

Class 4's House Token Tracker

Class 4's House Token Tracker 1

Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning Class 4.

I hope you are well and managing to do a little exercise each day and complete some of the learning activities that Ms Chambers and I have set you. I completed the Joe Wicks live PE lesson yesterday, it is quite hard work and my legs are aching a little today!

To help you with the drawing activity Ms Chambers set you yesterday, I have included a photo of my daughter's pet hamster. He is called Rhino and is very cute.

If you would like to do another drawing activity, how about drawing a rainbow. Lots of children across the country are drawing rainbows and putting them in their window to brighten up their community. It would be lovely to see lots of houses in Hyson Green with pictures of rainbows in their windows.

If you are finding any of the work difficult or would like to send a message or share your work you can email me or Ms Chambers. My email address is

melissa.irwin@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Keep working hard, stay safe and be kind to each other.

Storytime

Why not listen to a story each day? Every day at 11am, you can listen to one of David Walliam's World's Worst Children stories.

Sit down, take a break and enjoy a fun story. https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

Wednesday 25th March

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you are all keeping well and finding lots to do whilst you have to stay indoors. I hope you are managing to get some exercise - the Joe Wicks exercises are great and you'll be doing it at the same time as lots of other children.

As I promised, before we closed school, here is a picture of one of my cats. This is Chinny. She is about 17 years old but still very active. She is deaf so meows extra loudly when she wants something! She is loving having me at home more as it means she gets extra fuss. We have another cat, Stan but he is outside at the moment. I will get some photos of him and post them soon.

Today I'd like you to think about pets. If you have a pet, are they enjoying you being at home when you would usually be at school? Are they keeping you company or are they being naughty? If you don't have a pet, what would be your perfect pet? It could be a real animal or an imaginary one. I have always quite liked the idea of having a monkey! Today I'd like you to get artistic and draw your pet - real or imaginary. Doing art is great for your mind and a really good way to spend some of your time whilst you are at home.

I would really like to hear from you whilst we are off. You can send me work you have done or just let me know how you are getting on.

Send emails to sophie.chambers@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Take care and stay safe,

Miss Chambers smiley

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you and your family are all staying safe and keeping well. I hope you are working through the activities in your class packs. Remember you don't need to rush through these. Please complete the activities to the best of your ability and neatly, just like you would at school. You can complete the packs at your own pace, but it is important to try and have a routine still.

Make sure you start the day with breakfast, getting washed and dressed then you could try to join in the live PE lesson from Joe Wicks just like lots of children all over the world.

Try to complete some of the English activities each day that Ms Chambers put on the website yesterday and also complete some of the Maths activities each day that I am putting on the website today.

As well as English and Maths activities, there are also some other fun and creative activities to try out. You can access these from my learning project link on our class page.

Make sure you stop for lunch and have some relaxing times during the day too. It's also very important to get a good night's sleep.

I miss you and your family lots.

Keep learning and most importantly, stay safe and try to have fun.

Take care,

Miss Irwin smiley

World Book Day

For World Book Day we dressed up as pirates as we had recently seen a production of Treasure Island. We shared our favourite books and completed Interest Inventories to help us be able to find more books we can enjoy.

We also created pirate characters and made wanted posters.

Winter

After reading different poems we used our art as inspiration to write our own poems.

Class 4 enjoyed making Christmas cards and candle decorations. They also decorated biscuits for their festive party.

Santa visits Class 4

Class 4 really enjoyed their visit from Santa this year.

Christmas Lunch

Today we had our Christmas which was really tasty. We all made candle holders for our candles and had them on our tables to make it extra festive.

Art Day

For our Art day we looked at the life and work of L.S. Lowry. There was lots to look at in his paintings. We used them as inspiration for our own works of art. We have done preparatory sketches, white washed our paper and painted our backgrounds. You'll be able to see them as soon as they're finished!

To celebrate National Tree week we had an afternoon of story telling all about trees from a lady called Lauren. We got to join in with the stories and even learnt a song.

What's happening this half term

We have had a great first week back in our new class.

Our Monitor Portraits

We are learning all about the Romans and for our English we are learning about Instructional texts.

We had to follow instructions to make a Roman road out of biscuits, sweets and custard.

They looked great and tasted delicious!
