Hello Class 3

24th July

 

Would you believe it Class 3? This is the end of the Summer Term and the end of the school year. You will be Year 4s when you come back to school in September and I will be the Year 2 teacher. School has been closed for so long and I never thought it would be as long as this. 

I feel extremely sad that we didn't get to do all the things in Year 3 that I had planned and it is sad and strange that all we can do is email each other. But you have all made me so proud because I know it is hard to work from a small phone or an unreliable device. Please say thank you to your parents, brothers and sisters, and anyone else for hoping you get online.You have worked so hard trying to do your work and to send me messages. Now it's time to have a good rest and a lovely summer holiday. 

I will miss you over the summer but please make sure you say 'hello' when I see you in September.

Hello Class 3

Here  are 2 fun maths activities (below) to do today! I think you will enjoy them.

I have some House Points to give out for children who have already sent work to Miss Chambers and Miss Irwin. You must have made a good impression-Momina has 5, Adchayan has 4 and and Agape has 8! So well done to you 3.

There are work packs from Miss Chambers and Miss Irwin to be collected from the school office in the mornings. So please can you come and collect the work. The pack is the same as what your Year 4 teachers put on the website last Wednesday. Please ask if your parents can take a photo of your work and email it to Miss Irwin or Miss Chapman. Friday is the last day to collect your pack because school then closes for the summer holidays.

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend and enjoyed the sunshine yesterday. I hope you managed to go out and maybe get some exercise. Adchayan has done some extra work explaining about how KFC (the takeaway chicken people) started after going there. Have you got any interesting things you would like to tell me about?

I am not putting any new work on the website today because I would rather you spent more time on the comic strip work that I gave you to do on Friday. This is something that you need to take time on-drawing and colouring carefully, using speech and thought bubbles as well as sound effects like 'Boom!' and 'Crash!'

Hello Class 3

I am sure you are really pleased to hear that you will be with Miss Irwin and Miss Chambers next year. Did you guess because sometimes there are surprises? Mrs Tibbitts is moving into Class 3, to be the Class 3 teacher, and I am moving downstairs to Class 2! I am looking forward to teaching the younger children but I do enjoy teaching Class 3 as well. So, your time in Year 3 is nearly over and you have to start thinking about Year 4. You will be getting your end of year reports soon which I have really enjoyed writing, and Mrs Nunez has written on them too. They will come in the post so please ask your parents if you can read them as well after they have seen them. I think it is important that you see what I have written about you.

Anyway, today’s work is a project that I would like you to do for several days. Follow the link below to the BBC website and watch the video about how to make a comic strip (that’s a strip of pictures that tell a simple story like in a comic) You also need to watch the second video about the First USA moon landing in 1969.

-Watch both videos several times.

- Think about how you can tell the story of the moon landings in not more than 6 pictures.

- Draw simple, but careful drawings and leave room for speech bubbles and thought bubbles so that you can show what the characters are saying and thinking.

- Here is an example of what one picture in your comic strip could look like.

Don’t rush this work. I would like you to take your time- draw and present your work really carefully. Use pencil first and rub out any mistakes. You could colour with crayons later or leave it as black and white. I hope you have all had a good weekend. Did you get out somewhere in the sunshine yesterday? I went for a walk with my niece’s dogs again. We went 9 miles which is a very long way. Below you can see a picture of me and Miya one of the dogs. This was at the end of the walk- I think she was tired because she wanted to sit on my knee!

I want to remind you about the teachers that are leaving Bentinck this year. Mrs Burton, your teacher last year is retiring after many years of being a teacher at Bentinck. Mrs Benton our IT teacher is also retiring and she has been at Bentinck for a very long time. Mr Burton, our Year 5 teacher, is also leaving. Hello Class 3

 

It does feel very strange at the moment- it is July and we are still off school. Some of you might be glad, but I am sure some of you, like me, might feel that it is quite sad to not be at school at the end of the year. We would be having sports day round about now and probably watching the Year 6 end of year play. We would have been to the Forest Ground for the Jamie Wilson Cup (football tournament) which is a lot of fun too. It is sad that we can't be doing these things together and it would have been great to end Year 3 properly. But never mind, when we are back at school it will be great and we will really appreciate how lucky we are to have a great school to go to and to do fun things together (as well as work hard!)

 

Today's work is actually reading comprehension work (but you might not think it is)

There are 2 activities and the first one is much simpler. You can decide which one you would like to do, or even do both. You need to read the text really carefully, 2 or 3 times. Notice all the information and details that you are given. Then carefully draw the picture that is described in the text. Make sure that you really take care to draw and colour very carefully.

I have had such a busy evening! I have had so much work sent in to me so I have been replying to lots of Class 3’s emails and that also means giving out lots of House Points. In fact, I have just given out 21 House Points.

I have just celebrated by eating a small piece of chocolate and it was delicious!

Have you seen the House Points that I updated on Friday? You might be surprised to see how many House Points King House have got. This isn’t anyone cheating! Hello Class 3!

I hope you are all well and not feeling too bored. I spoke on the phone to some people in Class 3 today and quite a lot of you said that you were missing school and of course your friends. Did you know that today is International Joke Day? Well it is so I thought I would tell you somethings about why we should celebrate this day.

  1. Laughing is really good for our bodies and our minds. It does lots of good things to make us stay healthy.
  2. Humans have been telling jokes to each other for over 4000 years. Laughing at something together helps everyone feel that they belong and that is important.

So today I would like you to send me your favourite joke. Please make sure it’s a really funny. If you can do a drawing to go with the joke that would be even better. Here is one for you.

It has been really cold and windy today but I hope that hasn't stopped you from going outside and getting some exercise! I have been going for long walks along the riverside most days and sometimes I take my nieces' dogs, Pablo, Milo and Mia. they run very fast and they all go in different directions so I have to do a lot of shouting to make them stay with me.

Sadly, Mrs Burton will be leaving our school at the end of the summer term. She has been teaching at Bentinck for a very long time and has taught lots of you in Class 2 and I am sure lots of your brothers and sisters.

I want to give a special mention to Adchayan because Since I mentioned watch Newsround a few weeks ago he has been watching and he has been sending in a summary of what they have talked about on Newsround each day. I am really pleased that he has carried on doing this - so well done Adchayan.

It is important to watch something like Newsround because it helps you understand so much about what is happening in the world. It also helps you understand other people's opinions about lots of issues.

How are you all? Has anyone managed to do some more exercise this week. I must admit the rain today put me off from going on a bike ride but I will try tomorrow. Let me know if you have been doing some exercise, maybe you can send a photo.

It is time we liven up the website with some abstract art. Abstract means that the art isn’t trying to show a person or a thing or a place. Instead it is just about colours and shapes. So, if you are thinking ‘I can’t do art very well because I can’t draw.’ actually you don’t have to be able to draw. You do have to be prepared to work carefully and think about what you are doing.

If you don’t have any paper or crayons please ask at the school office and they will give you some.

The most important word today is QUALITY!

If you’re going to do something -do it really well. Make sure you colour really carefully and neatly. Only use the 3 colours and follow the rules about colours touching.

Good Morning Class 3

I am so pleased with how much work I have come in to me today! Thank you and well done if you have emailed me with something today. Those of you who are working on fractions have been doing really well and I am really pleased with how you have managed the work.

Who has done some exercise today?

I did an exercise programme off the television and then I went for a walk! Have you managed to do some exercise-please let me know how you are getting on.

Today’s work is reading comprehension. If you remember last week I set some work on inference- when you have to look for clues in the text to find the answers but the answers are not actually written. Today’s reading work has an inference activity and then another extract from a story with some comprehension questions. The inference work uses a picture to answer questions about. The picture is of very rough, basic cooking equipment and the question mentions ‘refugees’. Refugees are people who have had to leave their home country and try to stay in another country often because of war or bad conditions.

Good morning everyone.

It was Adchayan’s birthday on Friday! have a look at the photos of his day.

It looks like he had a great day and some lovely presents.

I am going to start doing more exercise this week. I have decided to start doing some fitness exercise from the television and I am going to cycle or go for a long walk every day, not just a few days a week. I know the weather’s not so good but it would be good if all of you could try and move a bit more and get some exercise too.

Can you believe it is Friday again and another week is nearly over? I am missing you a lot and it does seem like a long time since we were all at school together. But it is great when I hear from you and it's good to look forward to when we are back at school again. I know the weather is really horrible at the moment and it feels like it ever stop raining! But don't get too sad about it because I think the weather should be getting better next week and we should get more sunshine.

I have had an exciting day- I have just been with my daughter Imogen to buy her first car! She was really excited because she saved all the money up herself and now she can drive where ever she likes and she doesn't have to ask for a lift or worst still -catch a bus!

Anyway- I have had some really good work back on the different types of skeletons- Adchayan, Raghd, Ese and Momina.

This work is to improve your inference skills. We have worked on inference before. This is when you read something and look for clues in the text to work out more information.

I have had quite a lot of work sent in to me recently and I have made a Power Point below showing just some of it. A special mention has to go to Agape who has done lots of work really well recently and to Adchayan who sends in work every day! I would also like to mention Ese, Momina and Oscar who have all been working hard and sending work in to me.

Today's work is science and we are carrying on with our work on animals and humans. Today we are looking at the different types of skeletons that various animals have.

First, look carefully at the skeleton Power Point.

Then, cut out the pictures on Activity 2 and stick them on Activity 1.

You will have to read and think about the Power Point carefully before you try to do the activity.

Hello Class 3

I hope you are all well? Thank you for looking at the website today.

It was my birthday yesterday and I had a lovely day. I was working in school in the morning and all the teachers sang Happy Birthday to me. In the afternoon I went to my Mum and Dad’s house and we sat in the garden and I opened my presents and had my birthday cake. It didn’t rain and there was even a bit of sunshine! Immie and Freya made me a cake which tasted delicious (but it didn’t look as good as the ones that Mrs Fredericks makes!) but it tasted amazing. My little grandson Alfie is now 6 months old and he is getting very big. Have a look at the photos.

I hope you have all had a good weekend, although it has been rather wet!

Today is a special day because it is National Best Friends Day so today we should all be thinking about our friends, and our best friends in particular. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a best friend because it is probably more important to have lots of friends, rather than one really good friend. What do you think?

It might be especially hard at the moment because you probably haven’t seen you friends for a long time and you might not be able to talk to them online. That might be hard, but sometimes that makes you really appreciate what you are missing.

There is a short story below to read. It is about a boy called Mario who finds out who his true friends are in a very strange way. When you have read the story, have a look at Friendship Potion 1 or 2. Your activity today is to write a poem, like a recipe for a potion for friendship. Friendship Potion 1 already has the words included and in Friendship Potion 2, you have to think of the words then write the potion.

It is also my birthday today so I shall have some news to write on here later about what I have been doing and if I have any interesting presents. I shall tell you all about them tomorrow.

Good Morning Class 3

What have you been doing today? The weather has really changed hasn’t it? No more sun for us for a few days unfortunately.

I have been busy today because I went to the Blood Donoring Centre. This where you go to give blood which can be given to other people who are ill and need it. I have put a photo (below) of what it looks like, but unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to take photos when I was there. It only takes about an hour, and then the blood is sent away to hospitals to help people get better. I found out that my blood goes to new born babies which makes me feel very pleased.

Hello Class 3. I hope you are enjoying the really warm, sunny weather and you are getting outside for some outside play? I have been spending lots of time in the garden and I do enjoy the sun. I had a special treat this evening- I was able to see my little grandson, Alfie. He is 6 months old today and he loves his food and is getting very chubby. Have a look at his photo (below) He is eating avocado for the first time. I think he liked it. What do you think? 

Today's work is a science activity.

Do you know what the word 'nutrition' means?

Nutrition is about what is in our foods to keep our bodies healthy.

To start with, have a look at the Power Point which explains how different foods give us the different nutrients which our bodies need to stay healthy.

Then there are 2 activities to do on nutrition. The first is to match the names of different food groups. the second activity is to look at the labels on different foods in your house and see if you can fill in some of the information on the table.

Don't forget- if you can't print at home, draw your own chart to fill the information in.

Good Morning Class 3!

 

It is lovely to be saying 'hello' to you all again!

I know it is strange saying hello after a holiday when we are not even at school, but we are lucky that we can talk through the website like this. I know it is hard and I imagine that some of you feeling a bit grumpy and sad because it feels like so long since we were at school. But let's be cheerful and think about all the good things that we have around us, because some people in other parts of the world might have a lot more to worry about.

 

Today for English please can you download the postcard and write to me. It has been so long since I read your writing (proper writing in sentences-not just odd word!) I would like you to write to me to tell me about what you have been doing. It doesn't have to be about anything exciting- it could be about what you and your family have been doing together, what you have been eating, playing or watching-anything at all. It would be great if you could send some photos to go with your writing too!

If you can't print the postcard, don't worry just write it on a piece of paper and send a picture of your writing to me. Use the writing checklist to help you.

For maths today, there is maths for the Badgers Group on measuring  and the Otters have a separate maths activity to the Hares and Foxes.

Hi Class 3 - It is 22nd May already and that means it is Half Term next week!

I know it's strange to have Half Term holidays when we are not at school but that's what it is. I won't be putting new work on here every day because it is the holiday, but if you want things to do- scroll back down over the last few months and find an activity that you didn't do- you can always do that.

Or, you could send me an email to tell me about what you are doing over the holiday. You could write it like a diary (in the past tense, including details and description, using the pronouns 'I' and 'we' etc.)

Or, you could email me to tell me about what you have been reading.

I will be putting your Eid drawings and cards on here later- so thank you to Ese, Adchayan, Raghd and Momina for sending them in. Hopefully some more Eid work will come to more tomorrow so I can add that too.

Hello Everyone!

 

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

 

WELL DONE to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. We have managed to maintain our fourth position on the leader board but our average speed has decreased to 3.44 seconds – oh dear! Thank you to all the children who are continuing to practise their times tables and play on TT Rockstars. Do you think we can improve our average studio speed again? Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message to see how well Bentinck is doing.

 

As you know I set a new class challenge last week to see which class in KS2 could increase their average percentage of active users the most.  Sadly this week there are no winners as each class either had the same number of active users or less. sad Oh dear, what happened? surprise Is it because you are ready for a half term break and didn’t feel as motivated last week?

 

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 did complete last week’s Rockslam Challenge I set and are also setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Muhammed in class 6, who once again beat my Rockslam score of 61 with his brilliant score of 96. Double house points again Muhammed!!

 

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars:

 

Class 3: Momina, Ocean, Adchayan, Agape and Raghd, Nathan and Mharan.

 

Class 4: Shareen, Zoya, Horia, Sarah, Haseeb, Aya, Ewa and Emily.

 

Class 5: Alaa, De Fan, Arundhathi, Ithar, Mahira, Geo, Ayokunle, Mariya, and Leighton.

 

Class 6: Muhammed, Kenneth, Lady, Haleema and Taha.

 

I would really love to see more children using TT Rockstars regularly and our school’s average studio speed improve. For the next challenge I will award double house points to the class who increase their average amount of time they use TT Rockstars. As it is half term, you have two weeks to help your class win this challenge.

 

Please try and go on TT Rockstars at least 2 or 3 times a week or even everyday if you can. This would increase your speed, your stats, your class stats and stats for the whole school. I will set everyone in KS2 a new Rockslam Challenge – if you beat my score you will also receive double house points.

 

Come on everyone, I know you can be super speedy at your times tables. The more you use TT Rockstars, the quicker you will get, your class speed will improve and our school speed. I will post an update on your class page in two weeks time, Friday 5th June to inform you of our school progress and class stats and will look at setting another challenge too.

It is Thursday 21st May

I have seen some great bee work this evening and Ese and Ocean have made bee models (look at the photos at the end of this) Ese’s model is probably more accurate and Ocean’s is funnier!

If you didn’t know already it is Eid this weekend. Mrs Fredericks and I thought it would be a good idea to make Eid cards for each other. Even if you are not a Muslim you might want to make a card to show how creative you can be and to send your best wishes to a friend or someone in your family.

Here are some messages that you can write on the front or inside your Eid card.

I would like to start by saying a really big thank you to those of you who sent in Maths and English today! The Hares and Foxes maths on Fractions was really quite difficult but really well done if you had a go!

I would like to give Ese a special mention. Ese is going to start Bentinck as soon as he can (so the rest of Class 3, you haven’t had the chance to meet him yet) But Ese today did all the maths and English for all the groups and did a great job! Well done Ese-you are a star!

Today’s work is all about bees. I want you today to really appreciate bees because they are amazing little creatures. Have a look at the Power Point first because there are some incredible facts that I am sure you do not know about bees. Do you like the photo below? My husband took it this afternoon when we were in the garden and I was talking about Class 3 doing this work on bees!

I hope after today you will:

-Understand how important and helpful bees are to humans and the planet.

-Never be afraid of a bee.

-Definitely never try to kill a bee if it scares you.

After looking at the Power Point I would like you to use anything you have at home to make a model of a bee. You can use anything you like. There are a few ideas at the end of the Power Point to get you started.

Good Morning Everyone!

I am really pleased with how many of you sent in your science work today- well done!

I know it must be hard for some of you when you are trying to work from home. I know that some of you would like to print your work and you can't and it must be difficult working on a tablet or a phone. I know you might not have all the equipment that you have at school -paper, pencils, crayons and things like that. Don't forget if you call into school on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9:00 and 11:30 am you can collect some resources.

If you are getting fed up with being at home and missing your friends, think about what you can do to help to cheer yourself up. Everyone is different- so think about what makes you happy- sometimes doing some sport or something active helps. It's a good idea to go out everyday and get some fresh air, even if it's just in the garden. Some people find that if they draw, paint or make something with their hands they forget about being sad. Have you done any cooking recently? I know Izaak and Ocean have done a lot of cooking and Agape has sent photos of the beautiful breakfast she made for herself. You can be creative when you are cooking but also you are learning to do things for yourself which are skills for the rest of your life. 

Remember more than anything that this is just now and things will change. Before long we will be able to do all the things that we miss doing (including going to school!)

 

Today's work is Maths and English. There are maths activities for the Hares and Foxes Groups to do on fractions and the Otters are working on multiplication. The Badgers maths is on measuring. There is an English activity for all the class, except the Badgers Group, who need to look at Miss Hodgson's page to find their work.

Really well done to all the children in Class 3 who took part in the Times Tables RockStars Challenge last week- Shams, Mohamed, Abdurrahman, Agape, Ocean, Momina, Adchayan and Raghd. Class 3 won and that means that you have got yourself a Double House Point!

This week we are going to do a lot of work to do with nature and wildlife. Today we are going to do the last piece of science work on plants and it is all about the lifecycle of plants.

  • Look at the Power Point first because that will explain what the life cycle of a plant means. Think carefully about these words – germination, pollination, fertilisation and seed formation and dispersal.
    Think about what they mean. Can you talk about it with your parents or a brother or sister?
  • Then, fill in the life cycle diagram by cutting and sticking the pictures on to the right place.
      
    I am going to set up a plant investigation for you to look at from home. Look at the photos below.

WELL DONE to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. We have improved our average studio score by 0.08 of a second. Our average studio score is now 3.39 seconds per question which is absolutely AMAZING!! Thank you to all the children who are continuing to practise their times tables and play on TT Rockstars. Do you think we can improve our average studio speed and progress further? Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message to see how well Bentinck is doing.

 

As you know I set a new class challenge last week to see which class in KS2 could increase their class average speed the most. Although class 6 have the fastest and brilliant average speed of 2.14 seconds, their score actually decreased by 0.01 second. Oh dear year 6! Class 4 increased their speed by 0.11 of a second, class 5 by 0.35 of a second but the WINNERS this week are CLASS 3 who increased their average speed by 0.44 of a second. CONGRATULATIONS CLASS 3 – DOUBLE HOUSE POINTS!!!

 

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 have completed last week’s Rockslam Challenge I set and are setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Muhammed in class 6 who beat my Rockslam score of 71 with his brilliant score of 95. Double house points again Muhammed!!

 

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars:

Friday 15th May

Good Morning Class 3.

You will be pleased to know that my email is working properly now and I have replied to everyone who sent me work yesterday! I have had a busy day today- me and Immie, Freya, Harvey and my husband went to my parents’ house to try to tidy up their garden for them. They have a big garden and the brambles had grown across the whole of a path and over the roof of the green house. Brambles have terrible spikey thorns and they are really hard to cut so it was really hard work and painful too!

But after a few hours of very hot, dirty work we managed to clear a pathway. I am so glad it was sunny today!

I have had lots of work emailed to me about nursing from The International Nurses Day. So, a big thank you goes to Momina, Ese, Agape, Adchayan, Raghd and Shams. I was particularly pleased with Agape’s writing about the importance of nurses which I have put on the website today. Also, have a look at the short film from Izaak when he discusses the difference between the past and present tenses.

Today I have some Maths and English for you all to do. There is a separate maths activity for the Hares and Foxes, another for the Otters and another for the Badgers Group. There is an English activity for the Hares and Foxes and another one for the Otters. The Badgers English group – please continue with the Falling Clouds activity from today. It is good practice for you to read and write sentences.

First of all I have to say a big sorry to those of you who emailed me yesterday! I am having some problems logging on to my email and I can't open it at the moment so I can't see what you have sent me and I can't reply! What a disaster!

SORRY!

But I am sure I will be able to get to my emails soon and I promise you I will reply as soon as I can. I am so disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing your work to do with nurses and the NHS! Never mind, hopefully it will be fixed to day and I will get to see your great work!

Hello Class 3!

I found out this evening that it is International Nurses Day today so I thought we really should do some work tomorrow to do with nurses. Nurses and other people who work in hospitals are on the news on the television a lot at the moment because of the corona virus and it might have made you think about them.

To be a nurse you have to work really hard at school and college and then study for a degree in nursing. You have to be a 'special' person who can take lots of responsibility and really want to care about other people. Nurses often have to do messy jobs that some people couldn't do. So while you are doing this work today I want you to think for a few minutes about how lucky we are to live in a country with such fantastic nurses.

Would you like to train to be a nurse or another medical worker when you are older?

What would be the best thing and the worst thing about being a nurse? Email me and tell me what you think.

Look at the pictures on Power Point of hospitals 150 years ago and hospitals now. Then look at the pictures at the top of page 1. Cut out the sentences on page 2 or copy them into the right column. You can add your own sentences too!

I would like to give a special mention to those of you who have completed some of the VE Day work today- Ocean, Adchayan, Izaak and Raghd. I have put some of your photos together (below) Other people have really worked hard completing lots and lots of other work- Ehtisham and Ese especially- really well done!

Today’s work is a little different. Follow the link below to a website where there are lots of zoos and animal sanctuaries which have webcams so that you can view the animals live. Have a look at the different webcams and the different animals that you can see. Remember if you look at a webcam in America (San Diego Zoo or Houston Zoo) don’t do it too early in the morning because they are 8 hours and 6 hours behind us so it will still be night time. There probably won’t be much to see (unless the animals have midnight parties!)

Please do a drawing of what you see. Try to draw the animal or animals really carefully. It would be great if you could email your work to me and tell me where in the world this animal is and what type of animal you saw. It’s a great way to see wildlife and nature, as well as look at somewhere a long way away. I can’t wait to see how you get on.

Hello again Class 3

I hope you have had a good weekend in the sunshine on Friday and Saturday? On my road we had a VE Day street party on Friday even though we had to keep 2 metres apart! We all sat in our front gardens and, one neighbour played music for the whole road to hear, everyone dressed up in red, white and blue and we all decorated our houses. The children had a competition to see who could throw a model spitfire (aeroplane) the furthest and a water balloon fight. The television cameras came to film us and some of it was on the news in the evening. It was a lovely, fun day! I hope some of you have managed to do some of the VE Day work I put on the website on Thursday? Don’t forget to email your work to me at my email address (at the top)

Hello Everyone!

 

I hope you and your family are all keeping safe and well.

 

A huge thank you to the children in KS2 who are trying their very best to help our school move up the leader board. Our average studio score is still 3.47 seconds per question and Sneinton St Stephen’s Primary School have now caught up. Although we are now listed as 5th on the leader board, both schools have the same score so we are really joint 4th. I think with lots of extra practise we can improve our studio speed and slowly progress further up the leader board. Take a look at the leader board at the end of this message.

 

Lots of children from Class 3, 4, 5 and 6 have completed the Rockslam Challenge I set and are setting challenges for their friends, which is great to see. Well done to Dawud and Muhammed in class 6 who both beat my Rockslam score of 62. Dawud scored 80 and Muhammed scored 95. Double house points each - AMAZING!

 

I am awarding house points to the following children who are using TT Rockstars, some of you have completed my Rockslam Challenge or played in the Soundcheck or other areas of TT Rockstars and I know that Class 5 have completed Mr Burton’s Rockslam Challenges too.

 

Class 3 are new to TT Rockstars and are doing an amazing job. The following children have been busy on TT Rockstars and will earn a house point: Shams, Mohamed, Maliha, Awais, Abdurraham, Momina, Nathan, Ocean, Adchayan and Eseoghene.

 

The following children in Class 4 will receive house points for taking part in the TT Rockstars Lockdown Challenge; Ewa, Ali, Shareen, Kacper, Aroosh, Komal, Zoya, Haseeb, Eiliyah and Horia. Well Done!!

 

Well done to the following children in Class 5 for playing on TT Rockstars; Alaa, Abeer, De Fan, Arundhathi, Anaya, Justine, Ithar, Mahira, Arooj, Raees, Geo, Ayokunle, Ethan, Mariya, Brayden and Abdullah. Dear Class 3

Thursday 6th May

Tomorrow is a very special day because it is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. That was the day when the Second World War in Europe ended and people in Europe had a lot to celebrate. Britain had been in a war for 6 years and life had been very difficult. Lots and lots of people had died and many thousands of people had lost their homes. It was even worse for people in other countries- some countries like France and Poland had seen their countries invaded and taken over by Germany.

So, your work for today and tomorrow is all about VE Day.

 

  • Read the Power Point first.
  • Look at the activities on the last page of the Power Point.
  • There is also a Spitfire aeroplane making activity (below)
  • There is an activity to design a VE Day medal (below)
  • Please send some photos of your VE Day work for the website and even send a short announcement or speech if you can.

Good Morning Everyone in Class 3!

 

It is Wednesday again! I think sometimes the weeks go by very quickly. What do you think? Thank you to everyone who has sent in a card or a picture today for Mrs Fredericks' birthday on Thursday. I am going to put them all together to make a little film for Mrs Fredericks to look at on the website. It's not too late if you want to send in a card, picture or use the cook pictures I put on the website today. If you email them to me by 6 o clock tomorrow I will include your work.

 

This Friday is a bank holiday (that means that some shops, banks, school and other places are closed to give the people who work there an extra days holiday) That is quite weird at the moment because everywhere is closed anyway! The bank holiday is to celebrate the 75 anniversary of VE Day. VE stands for Victory in Europe. 75 years ago the 2nd World War finally ended in Europe and the fighting stopped. We are going to do some special work for VE Day on Friday, but I would like you to see if you can find any information out for yourself before then. You could always send an email to tell me what you have found out. That would be great!

 

I have had lots of great work sent to me recently and some photos. I have updated the House Point Tracker and it looks like King are still in the lead. However, Greta are close behind!

Good Morning Class 3

Tuesday 5th May

 

It has been great that so many of you are managing to do some school work and to email it to me. I know a lot of you are trying really hard to get  on to the website, print work and send it to me and it can't be easy. Please thank your parents too for helping you to do work at home and for helping in emailing it to me. The House Point Tracker is filling up with all those House Points that you are earning for your houses too!

It's also great to see the other things you are doing at home -like making a cake, models of all sorts of things, a toucan out of a paper plate (Ocean!)

On Thursday it is Mrs Fredericks' birthday and It would be great if we could get a card together. If you have your own idea and want to make your own card, that is fine. You can email a picture of it to me and I will print them off. Or if you don't have an idea there are pictures below which you can print off, add your own face and a cake and I will add them to a big card. Mrs Fredericks' loves cooking and baking cakes especially, so I think that a card to do with baking lovely cakes would make her very happy. 

Please spend sometime on your drawing, colour it carefully if you have crayons, paints or felt pens at home and make sure that you are really pleased with it.

Please email your work as soon as you can so that I can make the card.

Good Morning Class 3

It is Monday again! Did you go outside over the weekend for a walk and to get some exercise? Although it’s important to isolate and keep away from other people who don’t live in your house it is also important to get some fresh air and exercise every day. I have been for 2 long walks this weekend. I have also been out in the garden; and the beans I planted last week are already growing into little plants that are big enough to be planted in the garden. Have a look at the photos below.

Thank you for all the work on the parts of a plant that you have sent to me. Have you seen the photos I have put on the website of all the different things Class 3 have been doing? Have a look below.

Friday 1st May

Hi Class 3.

It has been quite an exciting day today-did you see all the items on the news about Captain Tom Moore on his 100th birthday? If you missed it watch BBC newsround  https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/news/watch_newsround

Did you see how they arrange for 2 very old aeroplanes from the II World War to fly past? They were a hurricane and a spitfire. They also said that he had raised 30 million pounds for the NHS! What an amazing man! I think we are very lucky to have such special, brave people to help us get through such a miserable time, don’t you?

While it was Captain Tom’s 100th birthday it was also Mr Ganderson (my dad’s) birthday today. He was only 90 though (quite young compared to Captain Moore) We went round to his house and I took him his presents and his cake. We all stood in the garden, and it was raining! Of course, we couldn’t go in the house. I gave him the picture of the flowers that Husna made and Adchayan’s pictures and he was very pleased. I made him a birthday cake in the shape of a big number 90 and I decorated it to look like his garden because he likes gardening.

Making a Model of a Plant

  1. Today’s activity is a science activity following on from last week’s work on naming the parts of a plant. Follow the link below to watch the film link about the anatomy of a flower. The anatomy means the different parts of a flower and what they do to make seeds. Watch the film 2 or 3 times and you will learn quite a lot. This should be a lot of fun, especially if you like making things.

You know how much I love maths and how I always go on about learning and practising your times tables, so during Lockdown I am setting all the children in KS2 who have access to TT Rockstars, a LOCKDOWN CHALLENGE!!

 

I know lots of you are using TT Rockstars and are amazingly fast. Some children are practising every day, some once a week but there are some children who have not been on TT Rockstars for quite a while. Yes, I can see when you have accessed TT Rockstars, your scores, speed and stats!

 

As well as seeing your individual stats, I can also see your class stats and our whole school stats. Last week our school was 3rd on the TT Rockstars leader board for schools in our area – AMAZING! However, over the weeks during Lockdown other schools have been catching up and we are now 4th OH NO!!

 

 

 

I would love to see our school move back in to 3rd place or even further up the TT Rockstars leader board. Please try and go on TT Rockstars at least 2 or 3 times a week or even everyday if you can. Hello again Class 3

It was great today because I managed to phone some of you and I had a quick chat! I am missing you all!

I have had some great work come in from lots of you - Adchayan, Raghd, Oscar, Momina, Ese and Husna-well done-there are lots of House Points for me to add to the House Point Tracker tonight!

I have already added Momina's poster for Captain Moore, Raghd's tree picture and Husna's poster and paper flower pictures to the website.

I would still love some more nature posters to make us remember that 'Tomorrow will be a good day!' Scroll back and have a look at the website on 23rd April to find the template and pictures.

Good Morning all of you!

It is really strange being off school for so long, and I do miss you all a lot! I know it is hard but we are lucky to have the internet and to still have ways that we can contact each other. Please send an email to me because I would love to hear your news. You could tell me what a typical day in lock down is like for you, or maybe something funny has happened to you over the last few weeks.

I am going to make a birthday card and a cake for my dad's birthday this week. He will be 90 on Thursday! We were going to have a big party for all the family and his friends but of course that had to be cancelled! We will take the cake round to his house and sing happy birthday to him through the window.

I will put a picture of his birthday card and the cake on here for you to see when I have made them.

A big thank you today to Awais S for sending in his fantastic story (beautiful handwriting too!) to Adchayan who has been very creative making things from paper (a phone and a phone holder today) to Raghd for excellent science work, as did Izaak with some maths and to Ehtisham who sent in 5 pieces of work!!  Thank you all for your amazing work. Don't worry if you can't print things- you can just write out the answers on a piece of paper.

Good Morning Everyone in Class 3!

I was out in my garden yesterday doing some planting. Can you guess what I am growing? Here is a clue-

Can you work it out?

When they start growing I shall send some more photos for you.

 I am also growing some ferns. Fern seeds are called spores and they are so tiny - smaller than the tiniest full stop I have ever seen in Class 3!!

I have 200 spores in a tiny envelope which is only 2cm long! They can take a long time to grow but I will show you when they grow .

 

Look below at this science activity you can do today on the parts of plants.

  1. Look at the Power Point pictures then use the information to fill in the spaces in the sentences.
  2. Stick part 1 on top of part 2 on the left side.
  3. Cut across the horizontal lines so that the parts of the flowering plant can be opened to show the information underneath.
  4. Take a photo and email a copy to me. I can’t wait to see it.

Did you know that yesterday was Happy Earth Day? That is a day to make us all think about caring for our planet Earth. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful planet as our home. It feels like every day since we have had the lockdown and have had to stay at home we have had beautiful weather- blue skies and at this time of the year all the plants are an incredible bright green. Maybe that's to cheer us up!

Today, can you think about our beautiful world and how we need to protect our planet.

There is a short story (below) to read about looking after the planet then do the Let's Create activity off this week's activity list. Here it is-

 

Let’s Create:

When you go out for a walk or to exercise look out for natural objects such as stones, leaves, flowers and animals. If it is something you can’t take home, ask if someone can take photos of it. Use these to complete sketches which you can use to make a poster. Remember to draw carefully and concentrate on tone and shading.

If you can't go outside, look at the slides of nature pictures below for ideas to draw.

Use the template below, with the special quote from Captain Tom Moore, to make a poster. Tomorrow will be a better day is Captain Tom's quote to remind everyone that things will get better.

I will print your posters and put them in Class 3's windows (so make sure they are your very best!)

Don't forget to clap and cheer for all our NHS and care workers tonight at 8:00pm!

Stationery Supplies

If you are running out of paper, pencils and pencil crayons to complete your work at home, you can collect a pack of stationery from school. We are open on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning between 9am and 11am.

Good Morning Everyone.

 

I hope you and your families are all managing being at home together. It is very strange isn’t it? I hope you are able to go out every day because the weather has been great. I go for a long walk every day. What do you do?

 

How is everyone in your house? I hope you are not all making your mums and dads crazy! I shall find out when we are back at school. In my family, Harvey is driving everyone mad because he keeps hiding behind doors and jumping out and scaring the rest of the family. He used to go to a boxing club every evening and now he can’t go he has too much energy! He goes for a long run every evening but it’s not long enough to wear him out! Freya has lots of college work to do but she gets a bit bored too and Immie hasn’t been able to go to work for 4 weeks so she is finding all sorts of things to do like cooking and sewing and making things. I am doing the same and finding lots of jobs to do as, as well as school work. Have you seen Mrs. Fredericks’ cooking video yet? Look on the Class Pages at Mrs. Fredericks’ section. Why don’t you send me an email and let me know what you are doing. Or if you do any cooking, I am sure Mrs. Fredericks would like to see what you have made.

I know these are really strange times and we should be going back to school tomorrow if things were back to normal. But sadly we are not. I am really missing you all a lot Class 3!

But never mind-please keep sending me all your photos and video clips and pieces of work. They are great for me to see what you are doing and how hard some of you are working.

Thank you for your emails and for sharing your brilliant work and amazing activities over the last two weeks. Thank you also to all the parents for taking the time and supporting your children with their home school learning, I appreciate that this is a new challenge and it can be difficult at times juggling work, looking after younger children and supporting other children in your family with their schoolwork. You have done a fantastic job!

I will not be setting work over the Easter holiday or updating our class page until after the Easter break on Monday 20th April.

Mr Burton's keep moving activities

    Friday 3rd April

 

Who joined in with the clapping for the NHS last night?

Thank you for the photos Adchayan, I can see you were getting involved.

I was going to take some photos of me and my family clapping but I enjoyed banging a spoon on a saucepan so much I forgot!! Hopefully next time, and I will put them on the website.

 

Lots of work has come to me last night and today so have a look at the selection below.

These people have all earned themselves house points for their work and photos- Adchayan, Ehtisham, Shams, Raghd and Mohammed. I would like to give Momina a special mention (and house points of course) for sending lots of work and a brilliant indoor scavenger hunt list.

 

I've also had some very funny April Fools ideas. It is a shame we are not at school because it would have been chaotic!

 

King house are doing incredibly well (that's nothing to do with me being in King either) so come on, especially Farrah!

 

Whole School Singing Challenge!

 

Hello everyone. Lots of people are using music to help them get through the difficult situation that we are all in at the moment. Have you seen the people in Italy singing to each other from their balconies? Or heard some of the funny rewrites of songs that are being shared on social media? My favourite is a clip of my GP singing ‘Stay at Home’ to the tune of ‘Let it Go’ from Frozen!

We thought it would be lovely if we could all learn a song together, and the song we have chosen is There’s a Power in the Music, which is the special Sing Up Day song for this year. You can sing along with the lyrics video on YouTube by clicking on the link below, and if you’d like your own set of lyrics you can find them below too.

When you’ve learnt the song, if you’re feeling brave (and I know a lot of you are VERY brave when it comes to performing), you could send a video of you singing along with a part or all of the song to your class teacher. This would be a great way to earn some house points for your house! We could then put some of the clips together to make our very own Bentinck music video. So, come on Bentinck students, get singing and see if you can spread some smiles!

Good Morning Class 3

 

It's Thursday and that means we are clapping for our NHS again tonight at 8:00pm. If you didn't do it last week, ask your parents then go out your front door or window and clap as loud as you can.

You can bang a big spoon on a saucepan or find something else to make a loud noise with. Get your whole family to join in with you.

 

 

We are so lucky in Britain to have a National Health Service which is there for us all to use and these people are working hard to keep people well.

Good Morning Class 3.

I hope you all had a good weekend-even though it was a bit cold!

Exercise

Have a look at Newsround this morning. They have been talking about how important exercise is. Ask your parents if you can go out for a walk or a run around on a quiet park or on some grass somewhere. You are lucky because most of you live near the Forest Park which is huge. You can't go on the playground, but you can have a good walk or a run around. Set up some running races with your family members or take a football and have a good kick around.

If you can't go outside think about how you can exercise inside.

- How many times can you run up and down the stairs?

- Can you do some gymnastics, rolls, jumps and balances in a space?

- What are your ideas?

 

Please send me your photos of what you are doing today for exercise. (I will put them on the website if you tell me you would like that)

 

There is a new set of work activities on the website below. I will also keep adding new activities to keep you busy. I am so pleased with all the work and pictures that some of you have emailed to me. If you are in contact with Class 3 friends online, please ask them to email their work to me. There is some really good information on there today-you can see all about the clapping for the NHS last night (did you join in?) There are also ideas about how to keep healthy and happy during these different times. Please have a look.

 

Because there is an article about the Australian koala bears recovering from the forest fires, I have decided to set you a drawing challenge today. Have a look at the Drawing a Koala instructions below, then please email a photo of your pictures to me at vicky.ganderson@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk

Class 3 24th March

World Book Day

Class 3 dressed up as fairy tale characters and made puppets of characters from 5, well-known tales.

They practices their parts and put on a fairy tale puppet show.

Class 3 played the Australian children in our Christmas performance of Children Of The World. Here we are!

Class 3's Art Day Focussing on L.S. Lowry

We painted famous and important buildings in Nottingham in the style of a Lowry background then added match stalk men, women, children, dogs and cats to create our own Lowry scene of our city. We hope you enjoy our art.

Science in Class 3 - We made wormeries to look at how worms turn organic waste into compost.

Then we emptied the wormeries to see what the worms had been up to!

Class 3 performed a ukulele receital on Christmas Jumper Day (thanks to Tom, our music teacher)

We had a great story telling session to celebrate World Tree Day!
