School Sport and PE Funding

At Bentinck Primary and Nursery School we believe that PE and Sports are an integral part of every child’s education and development.  PE should be a significant factor in developing children’s physical competence and confidence.

We aim to inspire our pupils by providing a wide range of stimulating and enjoyable sporting opportunities that cater for children of all abilities. We feel that all children should have access to quality PE provision, with the intention of increasing the amount of young people taking part in regular sporting activity throughout their lives.

We also promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and educate our pupils in how diet and physical activity can affect health and fitness.

Physical Education

All our pupils take part in structured PE lessons each week through which we aim to develop balance, control, agility, co-ordination, flexibility, strength, technique, tactical knowledge and teamwork skills.  PE is delivered through areas recommended in the National Curriculum including Dance, Invasion Games, Gymnastics, Athletics, Outdoor Activities and Swimming.

This year, the school will be introducing a new Physical Education programme called  ‘Real PE’.   The Real PE programme has been designed and developed to give all children the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, sport and life.  We will be introducing this programme during the Autumn term of 2015.

We also use specialist coaches to teach particular sports to ensure the best possible PE provision.  Last year we had professional coaches teach urban hockey, ice skating, tennis, basketball and dance to our pupils.  We also had coaches from Nottingham Forest FC deliver high quality football coaching to the majority of the school throughout the year.

Swimming regularly is not only a great way of keeping fit and healthy but also an important life skill.  This is why we now ensure that all children from Year 2 to Year 6 are provided with quality swimming lessons for a whole term each year.

Swimming lessons take place at the local John Carroll Leisure Centre and led by two fully qualified swimming instructors.

After School Clubs

We aim to provide a variety of free sports clubs to our pupils, taking place at lunchtimes and after school.

After school clubs vary throughout the year due to the seasons.  This year we will continue to provide;

Girls & Boys Football, Girls & Boys Cricket, Urban hockey, Dance Fit, Basketball, Change4Life Club.
